I'll take 1080 encodes over the actual disks anyday.
Wouldn't 20 blu rays encoded at full quality equate to roughly 1Tb? That's insane for a single show obviously hard drive space is very cheap these days but still ... If I had a server rack setup with cat5 all around the house it would be quite fun to digitise my whole DVD / blu ray collection.

Failed to last even a day btw, half way through the mini series right now By god the blu rays are awesome ... When the basestar cam over the station at the start ... The detail! Only ever seen this on sky broadcast before and that ship just looked like a shadow blotting outthe stars lol! Just saw the nuke scene, awesome.

Some of the scenes are spectacular, however most of the series has a film grain added which dilutes the clarity.

Still, I love this series, I'm about halfway through season 2 right now. But I'm watching it more slowly as i'm working my way through ST: Enterprise season 3 right now.

Ah! Just finished the mini series, damn that is some good TV! The Boomer reveal . I must admit, it is slightly annoying knowing the twists the second time round. I remember trying to work out if Balter was a cylon or not, who else they may be, what the frak was number 6 doing in Balter's head etc etc. Knowing the answers takes away some of the mystique and fun, but it's still awesome to watch ... also pick up on things you missed before / had forgot!

For example, Adama just read the note:

There are only 12 Cylon Models This became common knowledge over the series and I never really thought back to question it - how did they find this out? Who did the message come from? Unless I missed it in the mini-series that message just appears on Adama's desk ... just there a convinient plot mechanic or something else? Maybe we'll find out in The Plan.

By god, Number 6 in that red dress again ... *drool* [surrender]

I see what you mean about the grain, what's weird to me though is how inconsistent it is. You can go 40 minutes with pristine near reference quality footage - of both CGI space battles and interior shots of the CIC or Colonial 1, then all of a sudden you're in say the hanger deck and the background looks like something out of the matrix with all the grain dropping off the screen Didn't bother me too much as it was few and far between, but strange none the less.

Now do I start season 1 tomorrow or am I good and wait ...

I love #6! Its my favoritest numba EVER!!!

Though I love 3 and 8 as well.

The film grain gets standardized later on, its also there, but less emphasized. There are still jaw dropping scenes but the grain gets most of them.

Tricia Helfer is HOT! It was also her first acting role I believe. She did a good job with all of the various six rolls. Head Six, Natalie, Caprica Six, Shelly, and the unamed 6 rolls.

The other part is the music. Its sparse in the beginning. But by season 2 there are some awesome scores, and by 3 its amazing. Precipice, and Storming New Caprica are amazing tracks by Bear McCreary.

I really liked the seires, but I don't think I'm willing to drop over $200 for the complete series on Blu-Ray.

I'll probably hold off a while on that one.

And it's funny they decided to use the "BattleStar Gallactica Last Supper" image on the box art.

You've never seen Mrs. Doubtfire then have you. Great movie.

Or you could argue I Am Legend as well, but I was more referencing Mrs Doubtfire.

When RW is doing the phone auditions to get rid of the competition one of the character voices he does is someone who barely speaks english. All he says is, "I Am Job" in a very stilted voice. He makes each word/letter a separate sentence.

The only similarities BSG has with star trek is that..both have ships in space. It ends there pretty much.

BSG is fantastic, the first 4 seasons are utterly brilliant. I didnt personally like the final season (it got a little wacky) but everything before it, including the stuff they made inbetween the seasons, is a joy to behold.

You don't have to be a science fiction fan to enjoy this show. Anybody can appreciate the edge of the seat stuff that this series provides. You will love some of the characters and you will hate others. You will feel for all of them. I believe it has been labelled 'drama in space' many times, that should give you an indication as to how unsimilar it is to star trek.

Congrats you lucky git [thumbup]

I really want the whole series on blu-ray but am a bit gutted as I don't think the UK version (which isn't out for two months yet ...) comes with the cylon . Furthermore I've held out this long, I kind of wonder if I hold out longer if they'll create a new boxset with 'The Plan' as well?

Anyway, enjoy! Wish I could be watching some BSG Blu-Ray goodness right now ...
