would you sack someone if they were really good at their job makes the company money but is a right aerosol that no one likes and is always late.
or would you sack someone who is really crap at their job keeps making mistakes costing you money/sales but is never late but tries their best and always puts the company before them selves and is well liked by the work force. |

We have a similar situation at my place (Fabrication, steel erecting) and funnily enough we have both the characters you describe. But we're getting rid of both of them, hard times in the fabrication world at the moment.
It is a tough choice, and in these times the best thing to do is to get rid of the one who is doing below average work but tries hard. At the end of the day, the aerosol is getting the work done and at a good standard, in turn making money. |

it is tough to fire the ass if he is making tons of money for the company, though, at some point office/work continuity might come into play where if everyone elses work is suffering because of him, their loss in productivity might outweigh his gains, thus you nix him....unless of course what ever he is selling sells itself, and anyone who would replace him would do equally as well.
The second situation... i would look to find him another job in the company if at all possible, one where he can be used better...if not available, team player and great guy or not, he would have to go. There are tons of other team players out there who won't make his mistakes. |
