I would like to be an IT professional!

I graduated from college back in December 08 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. I have not been able to find work though, and I'm still working the same part time job I had while in college.

Figure out exactly what in IT you want to do, and start getting certifications relevant to your field.

I was already in school as a computer programmer when I joined here, and that's where I still am.

Right now I am working as a Lead Developer for a company making Intranet software solutions. Or I was, but due to recent cutbacks I don't have a team anymore... So I guess I am just a Developer now

When I joined, I was studying software engineering at uni, so it's no surprise that I'm now working as a software developer. My company produces network management software for all the big telco's around the world.

P.S. So if your broadband goes down, you can probably blame me for it

Not really an IT professional but I have been involved in several project in the Physics dept. at my university developing data analysis algorithms for various groups in the particle physics section. Which meant I was mostly in front of a PC coding in C++. Still have one more year left till I get my MSci Physics.

You know, that sounds exactly like my work. I'm not a sys engineer, I'm a DBA, but that describes the current job of our sys engineers almost exactly.

I'm a Helpdeskysysadminnetworkengineromathingy

yup... I have no idea what the frig I'm meant to be. I'm never treated like pure helpdesk or systems or network. I'm just some guy doing his thing and never reporting to my IT boss on much. I'm not sure what he exactly thinks of me.

Default How many IT Professionals......?
Are there on these boards?

Having grown up on Futuremark with so amny others around my age, how many went into the IT profession?

Details on your job roles and what is includes would be very interresting.

I am currently working for the company in my sig as Technical Sales Engineer.

Basically I do about 70% sales work and 30% engineering when less experienced engineers need a hand or on larger projects these days.

I recently moved for the same basic money but am now on performance bonuses etc.

I've just turned 22 for those wondering......

How about you guys?

Network Admin here )

Manage about 12 servers, including an exchange box, 6 DC's, about 450 users.

It's an all Windows windows enviroment, short of our AS-400 server, which makes it pretty simple to manage. Symantec Endpont Manager, WSUS server, MPLS to 5 other satelite offices, intranet site and so on.

It's a great job. Good pay, relatively low stress and since the previous admins were either understaffed or lazy bastards, there is always lots of work to do.

After leaving uni worked as a strategy consultant for Fujitsu UK (read procurement and deployment management consultant). Got bored, left, became an actuary and never looked back.

6 DC's
Do these do much else?

Do you have any child domains?

I cant imagine needing that many DCs for 450 users

Sounds very similar to the setup we have where I work. We have a 400 running ICC and bunch of satellite offices too.

To the OP I'm webmaster and general help desk support. I originally came from more of graphic design/video editing background.

P.S. I was hoping for this thread to be a good joke, something like how many IT professionals does it take to change a light bulb?

I worded it in that manner intentionally.
