Default The best show no one watched just ended
The Wire was such great tv... if you have never watched it, do yourself a favor and put seasons 1-5 on you netflix list.

No-one watched it and it lasted five seasons?

I think all Dark Angel / Firefly / [every show that ended prematurely] fans just cried a little.

it's HBO, got 2 million viewers average, that is not a large viewership. And no offense to Dark Angel/Firefly...but those shows are utter crap compared to this one.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who would turn that statement around.

And the others are?

My point is your attitude is way too biased, like you're asserting your opinion as fact. Just because the "critics" think it's wonderful doesn't mean everyone else has to, and it sure doesn't mean people who enjoy shows that get off of cheap action or cheesy storylines are any less of an adult.

It's just a pet peeve of mine to see someone pass off their opinion as fact without stating any reason other than "the critics think it's good," then act judgemental. If that's not where you're going with this, then I'm glad.

To me, if someone likes a show and has a personal reason for liking it, then that reason is perfectly valid for saying one show is greater than the other. If you say why this show is great, and what makes it great for you, then that's all I need to hear.

I personally feel that calling Firefly "utter crap", no matter what you're comparing it to, is odd to say the least. To combine the words "no offense" and "utter crap" removes credibility. Insinuating that Firefly and Dark Angel are children's shows is a bit silly.

I find your posts elitist and particularly rude. [thumbdown]

I am not trying to offend anyone... i like shows like HEROES, but it is a childrens show without a doubt.. and complete rubbish compared to The Wire, as are the other shows....those shows ask you to sespend reality, which is fine an dandy, but not the real, gritty nature that is the Wire. Those other shows hold your hand and recap every week, and keep things clean and tidy to relate to the lowest common denominator. The Wire breaks this mold and trumps the typical crap that you find in other cop shows. This show is all about the game, from both sides with no holds barred. After the 1st season you know more about the drug game then you could imagine. When actual people who live in that world (cops and dealers) give this show the praise they do, it means something. Even so, they somewhat jumped the shark this season, but in a believable and understandable way. I am not Acarney moaning and whining about the latest teenage drama to get canceled. This show was not canceled but ended on its own terms.

Put it on your netflix list or not, i dont effing care.

I hate to break this to you, but when your target audience is the 12-24 age group...it is a childrens show.

That's a fine enough reason, and you should have stated that in the first post. But please stop referring to shows that many adults watch as "children's shows." Like twonha said, it comes off as elitist and rude.

i am just telling you the truth, if you cannot accept who the target audience is and what that means i am sorry. You can tell by the commercials that run during a show whether it is an adult show or childrens show. Hint...if you ever see a Mountain Dew commercial while you are watching a tv show, you are watching a show directed at children/teen segment.

So because it targets a young audience, the show is therefore less worthy?

I said i liked Heroes, and that it is a childrens show, and that it relates to the least common denominator. I have nothing against them and definetly think they have thier place in TV. That said, they all use the same formula and in ten years will be forgotten. The Wire is like hillstreat blues or MASH. It broke the mold and will be remembered for and heralded because of it.

Oh no! A Cop Drama is being cancelled. While an incredibly original series like Firefly gets canceled after one season and cookie cutter drivel like this stays on for 5 seasons. Good Riddance!

thing is, deadwood ended when it should have, as it was based on an actual town that was abandoned not long after the rich man fixed the election. It was just a boon town, and once the gold was gone, so was the town.

did i ever say the show was canceled? I said it ended, and on it's own terms. Therefore, i must conclude his reading skills are not very strong.

Yeah, but that's just my point -- illiterate is a bit extreme.
