thing is, deadwood ended when it should have, as it was based on an actual town that was abandoned not long after the rich man fixed the election. It was just a boon town, and once the gold was gone, so was the town. it was also meant to be a 5 season show. |

Critics are primarily a bunch of idiots, so using that as a bases for your claims is not very strong. I watched the wire a few times and thought it was pretty boring. ![]() |

it is not a show you can watch a couple of times...it is a show you have to watch from the beginning, as i said, since it does not hold your hand and retell what happened at the beginning of each show. If you thought it was boring it was one of 2 things...either you had no idea of what was happening or you need lots of explosions to keep your attention |

I hate to break this to you, but when your target audience is the 12-24 age group...it is a childrens show. On that note, have you also considered the possibility that people infer things that may not be correct? You call someone illiterate for inferring incorrectly - while calling him illiterate means you're inferring yourself based on very little information. (And obviously, regardless of your exaggeration, you're factually incorrect.) Last but not least, even though I never meant for the thread to turn into a comparison between series, Firefly won plenty of awards as well and enjoys a lot of popularity. The Wire on the other hand, excellent as it may be, apparently always struggled to keep its audience interested. I'd argue that a television show that can't keep an audience is inherently flawed - if your show doesn't match the audience, you're failing to meet consumer demand and that's a rather vital part of television I believe. Now, I don't mean to say that that makes one show better than the other (both shows were troubled by things other than their quality), but I do feel that if you're going to call shows "utter crap" there should at least be some shred of truth in it. apparently, not only do you very little knack for sarcasm, but you are illiterate also. I find it curious that you're coming off as barbaric as you are. That said, they all use the same formula and in ten years will be forgotten. The Wire is like hillstreat blues or MASH. It broke the mold and will be remembered for and heralded because of it. ...by all the people who didn't watch it. |

Yeah, Firefly got its plug pulled. However, it was liked enough that after the plug was pulled, they came back and made a movie for it. Seems like it did pretty well. Firefly's episodes were fairly separate, and didn't need to be watched in order for the most part. I like the show, mainly because the cast interacts so well with each other.
I guess all of the Star Trek's are kids shows as well. But I think you'll find that the average age of the viewership is a bit older than "kid". Not to say kids don't like it, I did. I was watching TOS and TNG at 9 years old and liked them quite a bit. And I've watched all of the others, though not as often as TNG, I can honestly say I've seen every episode. I enjoyed all of the newer stuff even as an adult. |

"I envisioned each season as one year. The camp was destroyed at the end of four years, and I wanted four seasons" Straight from the creators mouth. There really wasn't much more to tell, just a wind down after the election and the disbnanding of the camp for the 4th season. There may be a town called deadwood, and it may be in the same exact spot as the original camp, but it is not the original camp by any means. now saying 4 seasons is good enough for the storyline is one thing, but deadwood still exists. yes the tow burnt down, but there were still a lot of the same people there. http://www.legendsofamerica.com/SD-D...dTimeline.html |

apparently, not only do you very little knack for sarcasm, but you are illiterate also. You're clearly the illiterate one as you can't seem to tell the difference between a child's show and a young adult's show. That's a sad shape as you're clearly some grumpy, old 60-something who has been treated poorly by the younger generations. The other possibility is worse. Stop trying to portray your opinion as fact, it does not help to get people to take you seriously. |
