But do you think he is the fastest driver in F1? He is not even in my top 7, let alone anywhere near MS.

My top 7 drivers still driving is

Vettel
Button
Massa
Alonso
Webber
Kubica
Hamilton

What would be really great is to do some sort of "shoot out race" in the beginning of every season. They all have to use the same car which is being made by FIA within the F1 rules. THEN we could really see who's the fastest driver!

And I really doubt Kimi would be among the top 3.

Easily, I rate Alonso, Massa and Kimi about the same, Hamilton & Vettel about the same speedwise as them, but lacking experience which sometimes, but rarely can cause problems, this however is of course something that they gain every season more and more, so these 5 are the clear top5 in my books with no any specific order.
Webber is good, but not that good, same goes for Kubica, and IMO Button is now good pretty much only due his car, IIRC he hasn't been showing anything too brilliant in the past (of course taking into account the fact that the car hasn't been too brilliant either, but just comparing to team mates etc)

Maybe he would, maybe he wouldn't, we'll probably never know.
The problem with this kinda race, while it would be "fair for all", is the fact that each driver has his own preference of how the car acts and fits his driving style, some like it understeering, some oversteering, some something in between, some like the ability to break late and hard, some want to take corners smoother etc etc
So building a car that favours no-one and suits everyone is pretty much mission impossible

Not to mention the occasions where he also got close to winning it but didnt. Thats one thing about the guy that NO other driver so far has been able to show...MS fought to the bitter end all the time for his ENTIRE career...not once did he ever act like he didnt care anymore (*cough* Raikonen *cough*).

I was one of those who used to say that Michael Schumacher was ruining F1...but only after he left you look back and realise why he was so good, he is simply the complete package, maybe not the best in all areas, but the best in so many areas that it puts him on a different level.
Remember way back in Brazil (?), when he was stuck in 5th gear but didn't give up and still got a respectable position? Many drivers would have simply given up but he figured out how to drive it and still kept going.
It's a shame that such a great driver had the half dozen brain farts in his career that will forever tarnish his image for many people.

the way i look at it is like this..... i can't think of a single race where i thought schumacher could have driven quicker. massive levels of consistancey. as quick as he can be, raikonnen isn't nearly as impressive.

Michael is the Stig

I love Top Gear and it's cool that Michael is driving as the Stig.

I know many say actually Ben Collins but probably more than one driver acts as the Stig.

For those of you who don't know, the Stig is a mystery driver on the British car show "Top Gear"

Schumacher was only the Stig for that one episode, and he was driving his own car (which was that black Ferrari FXX).

Otherwise the Stig is just 'a professional racing driver' I'd imagine a few folks have played him since Perry McCarthy (who was the first Stig).

The thread title is wrong, it needs to be:

"Michael Schumacher is back in F1...NOT!"

Wow that was lucky [shocked]

He was 1.1 on the betting agency to maker a return to F1 this week. I was going to whack 2K on him to make a lazy $200, as I thought it was a done thing, and alot better than the interest it earns in the bank. But I hesitated with a few "what if's" going through my head as I was about to press the confirm button, and ended up not going through with it.

Phew

I hadn't even considered his neck pain was still an issue. Bloody bikes [cursing]

Yes but after that The Stig is the same guy evry time except for extreme one like the snowmobile. They use the same one so that the times on the board are very consistent and cars could be compared to one another.

What a disappointment. I was looking forward to seeing Schumacher back. Seeing if he still had it and seeing him go wheel to wheel with Hamilton et al.

Ahh man, what a shame [thumbdown], I was looking forward to this, would have generated a huge amount of interest for the sport too.

Me too. I bet the Raik's pretty happy about it. The Schu would have made him look a right c*nt on lap times. (until the last 5 or so laps of the race remaining, of course. )

Bullcrap, Räikkönen fought quite damn well against Schumacher, and would have won championship back then without technical problems aswell
Now with car that isn't specificly built for Schumacher like cars back then, and Schumacher being out for few seasons, new rules etc, I would have been surprised if Schumacher had beaten Räikkönen on any front

TBH i agree with you, the odds were stacked against him, but nonetheless it would have been really great to see the comparison anyway.

I was looking forward to this next GP before Schumacher said he'd drive, then when he did say he would drive i was really excited...now i kinda feel deflated about it...oh well.

the extreme reliability of the Ferrari also had something to do with Shumachers involvement in the development
