Max Payne...
To buy or not to buy? (DVD)http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo.../confused1.gif

I'd say no, its not that good.
Anyone else notice the sound from the gunshots? The shotguns would make almost no noise but Payne's Beretta or whatever it was would shake my house. |
It totally sucks..[thumbdown]

I enjoyed it. Certainly nothing ground breaking, but was worth a watch. To buy it though? Not unless it's cheap.

I actually thought it was a decent movie. Maybe that's because I expected complete crap from the film before I saw it. It was pretty true to the game IMO, unlike a lot of other movies that are based on games. |

The movie was truly horrible, the odd nod here and there just to keep the fans happy was a joke and poorly executed. IMO the movie did the two games very little (if any) justice, which is a shame because if any video game series deserved its own movie, it's max payne. |
I enjoyed it only when they hinted at aspects from the original game, other than that it could have been better.
Olga Kurylenko was a fine sight to see I must add! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/cool1.gif |
It's utter garbage, pure shite, imo it has nothing to do with Max Payne and never captured the Max Payne atmosphere or film noir style in the slightest, it failed spectacularly as do nearly all video game to film adaptions.

Sucked so bad that it should be illegal.
|
As a straight cheap action flick it was okay, however having played the max payne games and enjoying them I found the movie quite disappointing.

[no] nope

I just don't understand what everyone who says the movie is horrible was expecting. I honestly don't think a movie could be made to give the games what they deserve, especially if you played through the games first. It's like a movie adaptation of a book. The movie will almost never be as good as the book. |
I would have liked a film noir for a start.
I have never thought about walking out of a movie, but I almost did in this one due to sheer boredom. |

In relation to the games it was a horrible adaptation, it felt nothing like the games I mean where was the film noir (Sin City style) feel that featured in the game ? And as you said Mark Walhberg didn't convey Max Payne from the games at all, which is a huge mistake since he is the central most important character. To be honest I hated it because I always thought Max Payne could be made into a great movie, this was reinforced by watching Sin City, which is how I would have seen a Max Payne movie being like to some extent. |
It is considered one of the worst movies of the year by movie watchers, not all of whom are video gamers. With that said, the lousy adaptation from the video game was not a factor in determining the movie's quality.

- Acting was quite bad, none of the actors seemed to take their roles seriously (though Whalberg did to a decent job at times). - Some characters (such as Lupino and especially Jim Bravura) were butchered and didn't really resemble the original characters at all, I could understand a bit of a deviation to make their jumps to the big screen work, but this was laughable. - what little story there was was developed poorly, where was the narration for starters? I could go on, but after watching the movie I wondered if the people involved with the movie ever sat down and played the game for more than say, 15 mins? I didn't expect this to be an epic movie, but I also didn't expected it to be as piss poor as it turned out to be. |

Max Payne (Mark Wahlberg) carries a Taurus 4510 Judge revolver in 410 Gauge and .45 Long Colt as his backup gun in the film. http://www.imfdb.org/index.php/Max_Payne_(2008) I was referring to the Beretta.... It is a lot louder than it should be. |
