Default E-Bay photo scammer gets OWNED.
My god - it sure took somebody long enough.

Someone who was a photo scammer (you know, that crap in fine or misleading print, about the auction being only for a photo...) was finally taken to court (Judge Judy of all places, but still). The result?

PWNED. [thumbup]

Have a watch..

Good TV entertanment, but E-bay is ful of scams like that.
If the auction did state photo only then that is what she got.
People need to be aware of stuff like this & be more aware of scams.

E-bay has unfortunatley become a hive of scams & expensive rip offs.
The days of good e-bay bargains has gone, anyone who falls for basic fraudulant scams like this is naive.

I'm not taking sides, but that Judge Judy is TV show only and should never be given any kind of judicial status.
Most state district courts have crowded dockets, and deal with small civil cases very, very swiftly, so it's not as if the parties to the suit are missing out on any To Kill A Mockingbird courtroom drama. Plus, with the Judy-meister they avoid court costs AND appear on TV.

Edit: But you're right.... I would never take my case to Judge Judy.

A year or so ago my mom got a letter from the Judge Judy staff or whatever it is. Long story short, my mom's dog (who had to be put to sleep) was mauled by a Pit-Bull and somehow they found out about the case. Not really sure how... Maybe they just pull random cases out of a hat? I have no clue... Not only do they pay for the case, but they pay for you to get flown down and back, and IIRC, a place to stay.

Anyways, my mom never went. (So don't bother looking for it )

$5000 That's awesome!! For once the plaintiff gets some compensation back, instead of just the exact amount they lost. It's people like that scammer that have ruined ebay. I never shop there unless I hear from someone else that the merchant is reputable. Plenty of other sites I can buy stuff from online for almost the same price or cheaper and I KNOW it will be a NEW product, not used.

From Wiki.

"The award for each judgment is paid by the producers of the show from a fund reserved for each case. The remainder of the fund is split between the parties for a particular case."

So its not like that white trash person lost any money... she might of even made some.

I was always under the impression this was true. I think the above post about the producers paying the settlements pretty much confirms it. Although the cases may be real I'm not sure about that but I know the verdicts are utter crap. Not because they aren't fair but because they don't mean anything in a legal sense.

Personally I thought they should have taken the money of the fat blonde but told the 2 skinny whiney ones "Tough luck, read things properly before paying money".

Hell, whole thing could have been avoided with a simple message asking "Is this auction for the phone or for a picture of a phone?"

I have very little sympathy for people who don't read things carefully then moan afterwards.

I'd throw something heavy at that judge. I would also stand there with my middle finger flipped. I'd probably moon her too.

Judge Judy has gone mad with power, like that Chevy Chase guy.

Still, always good to see an ebay scammer brought to justice. Menopausal justice.

I thought everyone had to agree to this in order to sell items.

Your Information (or any items listed):
shall not be false, inaccurate or misleading;

As a registered member, you may list item/s for sale on the Site. You must be legally able to sell the item(s) you list for sale on our Site. You must ensure that the listed items do not infringe upon the intellectual property, trade secret or other proprietary rights or rights of publicity or privacy rights of third parties. Listings may only include text descriptions, graphics and pictures that describe your item for sale. All listed items must be listed in an appropriate category on the Site.

The listing description of the item must not be misleading and must describe actual condition of the product.

We all know ebay doesn't care. I got my ebay account suspended for fraud because someone waited 6 months to claim I didn't send a package. Then after I sent ebay 40 e-mails denying that BS claim they defaulted it in the other person's favor stating that I failed to respond to them. Ebay is crap. They even sent me a link that I could follow for more information. It said "go here, and click this link" but that link didn't even exist on the page they sent me to. Ebay is far too scammer friendly these days. When they were small it was a great place, but now they have NO customer service and care nothing about the scammer infestation.

Well, like someone already mentioned, there really is no justice on that show. The money doesn't come out of the person's pocket...it comes out of the show budget. [thumbdown]

Stupid idiots. I think the woman who sold it is right. They did buy a photo only.
Both parties are stupid. The scammer's huge mistake was including the weight and dimensions of the phone in her ebay listing, and using a headline that said "what you see is what you get." Technically, the way she presented it was all wrong.

Judge Judy is an idiot, though. She acts like a child and screams puerile insults that are completely irrelevant to the case.

The people who do the scams are FAR worse. The fat low life is a scammer and deserved what she got, although she needs to be punished even more.

If people read auctions properly and didn't go all hard/wet at the thought of cheap stuff the scammers wouldn't have a market to exploit to be honest.

And Judge Judy is a snotty 55 year old child. [yes]
