Have any of you guys complaining about the push back actually tried to buy a box? I redeemed my coupon at amazon. placed my order... and uhh... months later it was cancelled.

1 year would have been a perfectly acceptable amount of time to transition if the government hadn't botched up the coupons, and if retailers weren't going out of stock and making the entire thing a headache.

They should have shipped people out a cheap box, and limited it to 1 per household. None of this 2 coupon crap and then find a retailer who won't try to charge you $120 for a crappy converter box, or on-line retailers who take 2 months to cancel your order. Its just like food stamps... give people the product not the means to purchase it. My own family would trade me food stamps at a 2:1 ratio for drugs.

My parents bought a box, and did so with no issues. Frankly, i don't believe people when they say they aren't getting these things. This has been going on for MORE than a year, and really, there should be no problems right now. As it is, this transition just needs to happen, and let those without signal deal with it. Heaven forbid that people go without TV for a few days... [rolleyes]

I bought 1 box back in August, walked right into a Circuit City and they had a huge stack of them, used my coupon and left without a problem. All of the electronic stores around here seem to still have a lot of them.

I haven't tried to buy a box personally but I have seen plenty of them in all of the local electronic stores in the area.

I'm sick and tired of how all these commercials make you think that even if you have cable or sat tv you'll have to get the box. Thats whats getting me. Was talking to my parents and they said they originally thought they had to get it even though they have cable. I mean wtf? These commercials are misleading. It's not so much the government, it's the places that make these commercials that are misleading people. So we got all these people buying the dtv box's, that don't need it. Thats why the government is out of money for this program, all the idiots buying it that don't need it.

I think that delaying the switch is worse then doing it just now. The number of people that would actually be w/out tv, will be extremely minor. And those who would loose their tv, they can just move their butts out to the store and buy one if they just have to have it so they can "watch their stories".

Oh please shut the f*** up. This digital transition has been going on before even Clinton was in office. These dates have been pushed back forever.

Well if they have digital cable with the receiver or their TV has a digital tuner they will be fine but you can still currently get analog cable from the providers so you cannot assume that all people with cable will be covered.

So that somehow excuses him? I think you've just proven exactly the reason why this is a stupid ****ing move. Just do the damn thing already.

I was under the impression that ALL cable subscribers are not effected. That's what the government website says at least.

The government decided to do the switch to digital, pulling the rug out from under millions who had absolutely no desire for a switch, so the least they can do is offset some of the cost.

That is correct. Any signal, as long as it is provided by cable or sat (analog or digital) will continue like normal after the change. Even non-digital subscribers will not need to do anything, as it is only broadcast analog that is going out.
