Just got back from the docs as for the last two days I've had localised pain at the top of my breastbone (sternum).
It appears I've managed to dislocate a rib ![]() According to my doctor there is not much they can do. Its not possible to relocate it like you can with a shoulder etc. He advised that the pain should go down in about 2 weeks, but the dislocation itself will always be there. He gave me some painkillers and sent me on my (not so) merry way..... Not happy. To say it hurts would be an understatement. On the plus side though, I don't feel my back pain at all, as right now my body is busy focusing on the biggest pain-source..... |

I once slammed my foot into my bed post without realizing it.. Well thats what I think I did... a week later I notice my little toe is numb and a little tender/redish blue. Doc said I broke my toe and I didnt even realize it until I was trying to reach this bowl in the kitchen that was placed really high... got on my toes and then I noticed "Hey my little toe is numb".
Its only numb if I put pressure on it... otherwise its pain free. |

I didn't even know you could dislocate a rib, shows how much i know! It really sucks that there are some amazing things we have achieved in the world of technology and medicine, yet sometimes it's the simplest of things we can't fix.
I fractured my big toe in september, but it was an awkward fracture that went into the joint. They looked at the X-Ray and said normally they would try to fix that type of injury but the fractured part was still in place so it's best to just leave it to heal naturally. So there's me feeling quite glad that i wouldn't need surgery or anything when the nurse turned to me and said "Oh, but you won't be able to bend that toe ever again" in such a nonchalant tone as though it was nothing! Now i know there are people out there with far worse situations out there, but to be told i will never be able to move my big toe ever again just seemed so ridicolous to me considering some of the things we can do. ![]() |

I've lived for a quite a few years with constant pain from my ribs and its all to do with the muscles in between my ribs contracting.
The first time it ever happened, was when I'd just gone to bed and as I rolled onto my left side to go to sleep, I felt an enormous pain in my chest, My first thought, obviously , was "I'm having a heart attack", But having that thought made it worse and I started to get panicky, which made me hyperventilate and made things much, much worse. Eventually the pain was so severe, my wife phoned for an ambulance and 15 minutes later I was on my way to A & E. Fortunately, I was soon diagnosed with the muscle spasm thing and prescribed a long term course of anti inflammatory drugs, The tablet I took every day for about 6 months was called "diclofenac" , Funny enough its apparently used in some countries to treat cattle for muscle inflammation. In this story below, Vultures died as a direct result of eating cattle who had been dosed with diclofenac. ![]() http://www.birdlife.org/news/news/20...re_update.html Anyway, (touch wood) I haven't had any pain for several years now, But I know it could probably return at any time. So good luck with your recovery Chris, might take a while until you make a full recovery though, cos ribs can be funny things to heal. |
