Default £20 broadband piracy tax proposed.
http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/...cle5607744.ece

The latest barmy idea is to charge ISP's £20 a year per bb connection (which of course we will end up paying) and use the money to fund a quango to help fight piracy. This smacks of everyone's guilty until proven innocent to me. I'm against piracy but this is a step too far; if anything it would make me want to download stuff to get my money's worth!

Its £20 a year per BB connection though, so if that's right it amounts to about £1.60 being added onto a monthly contract fee, which is nothing really.

That's not to say I want to pay it, but still its only £1.60 extra a month, so its no completely terrible.

That's £1.60 a month I don't think I should have to pay.

This country really is in the **** and I'm sick of it tbh, soon as I can get out I'm going to Italy or somewhere (if possible)

I don't want to start ranting but it really angers me to even see Gordon Brown talking anymore, or darling, or that conservative one I can't even remember his name he's such a non entity. Honestly I watched question tie again last night and it was same old crap, conservative guy, again I have no idea who he was, just had a go at the labour guy, same old rhetoric word for word "you got us in this mess". We know they did, we know they borrowed craploads from China etc and they should have done better, but what we need now is SOMETHING OTHER THAN MOANING. When asked what they will do conservatives don't seem to have anything there.

I like Leb Dems now tbh they seem quite normal in comparison, see I started ranting.....

But back on topic, more tax is just what's going to happen to pay back this massive deficit. The country has no massive industry left as they relied on the financial sector for most revenue I imagine, that's down the pan so it's the taxpayers that will foot the bill. They'll slowly but surely start all these stupid taxes to try to hide what they are doing.

Well we already have a similar tax on devices that can record video (DVRs, video cameras with video in etc). Although IIRC that money actually goes to the movie companies.

all this reminds me of this thread where i said you wouldnt like it if you suddenly started getting taxed for web browsing.

yet it was alright for drivers to get taxed some more?

that explains why people dare to come up with such ideas in the UK, you are supposed to stand before goverment buildings with torches

to combine something like that with Digital Britain is just unbelievable, only in the UK...

Where did I say it was ok for drivers to get taxed some more? And exactly what tax are you referring to?

A great proportion of people ARE guilty TBFH, especially the younger generation who seem to be under the impression that music should be free.

If this reduces piracy, I'm all for it, as some people take the piss.

That's because they don't have the money but they do, unfortunately, have the lust for "more fun". [stupid]

Anyway, that's just bullshit. Another stupid way to get money in a crap way. Argh..

here...
Give me one good reason why it shouldn't apply to everyone. But then it would affect you and all the other moaners in this thread, and woe betide anyone who tries to put any restrictions on your driving. [rolleyes]
