Well I went to see it at 11 showing last night, and I have to say apart from some good work on stunts etc, I'm very underwhelmed
Didn't seem to have any of the depth of Casino Royale for me, just loked like a big technical exercise in set pieces and stunt work. Daniel Craig was good again mind you, the villain wasn't really bad atall though lol He just seemed like some wee guy, sure he probably killed some people but meh he wasn't convincing. Anyone else see it? |

thanks for the impressions. I'm anxiously awaiting this movies release in the US. I hope it turns out well. I thought Casino Royale was very good, probably the best bond in a long time, so I'm hoping this one follows through.
I like Craig somewhat, but I absolutely cannot stomach his gay ass pout thing that he does. It just makes me cringe to see James Bond do that. It's so obviously contrived too. It's like Elvis's lip curl except it's really, really gay looking. (and when I say "gay" I don't mean it like 15 year olds who say "that's so gay" I mean it literally. [rofl] He looks like a poofter when he does it. anyways, I like the new serious direction Casino Royale took. I thought the Indiana Jones4 ridiculous stunts the series was taking made it just laughably absurd. (Goldeneye and A View to a Kill being the most ridiculous examples) Also, the one where the glacier melts and he goes surfing (a recent Brosnan one) Anyways, ridiculous Brukenhiemer action like that has ruined what used to be a smart series. Does Quantum go back into this realm of ridiculousness? or is it more dramatic and smart? my favorite Bond films are probably Goldfinger, Her Majesty's Secret Service, Thunderball, and Casino Royale. for some reason I liked For Your Eyes Only also. |

thanks for the impressions. I'm anxiously awaiting this movies release in the US. I hope it turns out well. I thought Casino Royale was very good, probably the best bond in a long time, so I'm hoping this one follows through. The choreography was excellent, fighting scenes were quite bourne like, and they did manage to get the message across that Bond was on a mission with no real remorse for who he killed. The stunts were well done, car chase wasn't entirely unbelievable, apart from a DBS being chased by 2 159's...even a V6 159 wouldn't keep up with a DBS, although I suppose the winding roads and traffic would help. I like the wae Daniel carries himself actually, makes it seem like he is physically capable of doing all the stuff you see on screen, so in that respect I'd say don't worry it isn't back to the cheesy over the top stunts. I just felt it was maybe a bit short, the whole character of whats her name? Olga? (See I can't even remember who she was, very good looking mind you) Her character was just kinda......there. You got an explanation of why she is there, but nothing else really. I'm gonna say 7/10 methinks |

Just saw it yesterday... and I must say I liked it. A lot.
[LIGHT SPOILER WARNING] I can understand many people won't though. The plot is kinda thin... or rather confusing to say the least. But the new 007 is basically lost in this episode. He's lost the woman he loved (after she betrayed him), he loses support from MI6, he is in a very rough state of mind, and that's the atmosphere I liked in that movie. And he doesn't even get the girl. Actually, he doesn't even WANT the girl! Basically Bond is different. He's got nothing to do anymore with the previous ones. He's badass but he's in trouble. Makes him more human, and likeable. |

Where are the one liner jokes? where are the gadgets? This new style Bond is just copying Bourne and failing. Pretty much most of the bond movies are just absolute drivel. Piss poor dialog, crap story, garbage special effects and action. Die Another Day was the epitome of the series of garbage in the bond movies until Martin Campell came around and decided to actually make the best bond ever. |

Saw it on Saturday and I enjoyed it very much. It doesn't have the depth that Casino Royale had but then, it didn't need to. They spent enough time on character exposition in the first so it wasn't necessary in this one. This one was all about Bond continuing the mission from Casino Royale.
Yes he has more of an edge in this one, but there were several lines as well as a few scenes in which you see his charming/suave side start to show through. I think people need to remember that this isn't a continuation of the Bond of old, but rather a new beginnins. He has been a 00 Agent for only a few weeks now, he is still getting to grips not just with the job but also the demands the job places on him. My bet is that the next Bond film will see the character start to feel more at ease with himself and the charm, or some might even say arrogance, start to shine through a lot more. I also liked the relationship between M and Bond in this one, good to see that Judi Dench is being given more to do than give Bond his assignment and then spend the rest of the film saying "TEH AMEWICANS" during boardroom meetings. I'd give it a solid 8/10 (I probably appreiciated the movie all the more due to the fact I watched 'Die Another Day' for the first time the night before. Jesus Christ..... not only does it have some of the worst scenes in a Bond film, but perhaps in cinema as a whole. Surfing away from a Tsunami? It made me realise just how much Bond needed a reboot) |

And the action is done better in the Bourne trilogy. I'm going to watch the movie next week but not because I wanna watch a Bond movie. Because there is no Bond movies in cinemas currently, just a pretty good action flick. |

But isnt that what Bond is all about? Loads of "surviving an atomic blast in a fridge" scenes, cheesy one liners, and Bond always, ALWAYS gets the girl... I say it's about damn time the Bond movie became something better than a compilation of gadgets, machism and cheesy jokes that you'll reluctantly watch on a saturday night alone because there's nothing better on TV. Down with conformism!! All hail the new 007 who's actually become interesting! [thumbup] |

Hehe, the saturday night comment because thats exactly how I watch them. Nevertheless, this is how I wanna watch these movies, Connery and Moore made Bond who he is what who he always should be. The lack of sexism and cheesy action and one liners is crap! ![]() |

I went to watch it last night and had "so so" expectations before seeing it as I knew the story before hand. I've got to say I think it was fantastic, its good to see a more moody and bad ass Bond than the suave womanising joker we had before with Brosman.
It was a refreshing change to have no cheesy one-liners and not a single gadget in sight. I agree about the villain though, for a start he was French, do you know any bad ass Frenchmen? [rofl] Dont take anything away from pre-Craig Bonds though, I think the humour and un-realistic scenes are what have made the Bond films such classics, I just hope that the next film goes back ever so slightly to what we are used to. I rate it 9/10 (probably a biased score as I'm a total Bond junkie ![]() edit:- one thing I would like to add though is that the theme tune by Alicia Keys and whoever the chap is, is absolute crap and not worthy of gracing a Bond film! Hmmm I'm not too sure about that The thing is the scene is done with tons of comedic style and tonge in cheek, whereas the Brosnan films for example would just be deadly serious, as if he could have done it with his eyes closed. |
