Default ADHD question
Does anyone have it or know someone who does? I think that I might have some form of it plus some other minor issues. I'm getting to the point that I decided to talk with my doctor about what I'm experiencing (inability to concentrate, vertigo, lightheaded etc). If you got medical treatment, what did you take/are taking and how have things changed?

I've tried a couple of different things but have pretty much given up on trying to study for any period of time. I'm in college right now and am going for my MIS degree so I need to be able to concentrate.

Vertigo or getting lightheaded are not symptoms of ADD or ADHD. It's possible that the inability to concentrate is just a side-effect of something more serious. So yeah, get yourself checked out!

I have ADHD, and what you are discribeing is not even close. ADHD is diagnosed at a very young age. It causes massive problems throughout school out spoken behavior and extremly hyper active. ADHD requires Ritalin and a phsyciatrists to treat and is uncureable. What you have sounds like an ear infection or something

I myself have been diagnosed with ADD, not the hyperactivity portion, but the lack of concentration. I have never heard of, nor had the vertigo sypmtoms etc caused by the ADD.

As for what I take, all through high school I took Concerta, it was a 10 hour time release that would be enough to get me through the school day. Then when I had big nights of studying etc I would take a Ritalin for an extra boost of concentration. Once I got into college as my hours of studying etc greatly changed, I also changed my prescription to Straterra. This was a 24 hour pill, though it took more time to work up to the full mg and then wean off of, with a few more side effects the first few weeks, it was by far the best medication I have taken.

However, now I am graduated from college and have given up on my meds all together. But like castun said, it doesnt sound like you have ADHD. I would go and talk to the doctor and see what they have to say, it isnt going to hurt anything to just talk.

I actually have small sinuses and I do think that it's part of my problem. I also can't relax my neck muscles very well and I have scoliosis which means that given the way I sleep my neck ends up compressing on my spine and I end up with fluid buildup. I see a chiropractor every once in awhile and it helps but even with that I can't sit still and sit down for any period of time. Even when I'm clear headed I can't sit down.

I bounce from thing to thing to thing etc and just can't seem to find the motivation to read or study when I need to. I'm not trying to self diagnose and wouldn't be surprised to find that it's actually more related to stress. I'm planning on talking with my doctor on Thursday about a couple of things such as ADD, sinus issues, hormone/adrenal issues.

Do you exercise at all on a regular basis? If not, I don't see how it could hurt to at least try to burn off some energy or something. Aside from the lightheadedness / vertigo everything else sounds like it COULD be ADHD but it could be a lot of things too.

Three times a week. I go heavy and come home pretty exhausted some times. I've gotten stuck underneath a bar more times then I'd like to admit.

I have ADHD and as said by Stealth, it's diagnosed early and vertigo/lightheadedness aren't a part of it. Ritalin's an option or you could try and train yourself to deal with it.

I'm surprised (and a little scared) how drugs seem to be the first option mentioned by so many people.

It could literally be a million and one different things causing the symptoms you mention, and even if it is diagnosed as ADHD, drugs should be the last option, not the first one.

Have most Americans got ADHD? Seems like a lot of people here do. I don't know a single person here in the UK with this..

I would prefer not to medicate but I have given thought to getting my hands on Adderall before just to be able to concentrate. I'm just sick and tired of not being able to think straight and well, a lot of different things come to find when you're desperate. No, I haven't tried anything or done anything but there are times when I would be pressed to say no. Like I said I've got an appointment tomorrow and am going to bring up everything and really try to get the the bottom of whatever I might have. I just don't want to blow things out of proportion so if I don't have ADD I don't want to become a walking talking zombie because of drugs I don't need.

Doctors seem to say any kid with attention or behaviour problems nowadays has ADHD. Actually there no is such thing as ADD without the hyperactivity. Doctors give medication to kids because the parents can't control there kids. go to youtube and look up kids with real ADHD and you will see what they act like.

Pssh, they just need to learn to multitask. ADD/ADHD isn't so much of a disorder as it is an ability. Think about it... do you want a single core, or a quad core? Altho I tend to piss off normal people. They think I'm on crack sometimes. My current employer clearly realizes how useful it is.

They put me on Ritalin once. I refuse to take that stuff. Made me violent. Normally I'm a pacifist. Right before lunch/2nd pill, when it was wearing off, I'd just want to break someone's face if they looked at me wrong.

Sounds like a weak form of Anxiety. Increased heart rate, vertigo, inability to read more than 5 words in a sentance before I forgot what I just read, inability to be fully aware of my surroundings, and a small feeling of fear (mainly to do with my lack of ability to concentrate or latch onto something).

Used to get a few attacks here and there, but eventually I grew out of it, especially since I stopped having 5 cups of coffee a day, and working too hard.

I had a friend who has it. Growing up through school I tell you what. That kid was nuts and off the walls! It makes a super awesome guy to hang out with having that much energy and no consentration! lol.

Though, I do think that it can be "contagious" Not physically changing you, but just mentally. When I hung out with him I would eventually get to the point were I was like him, but when I didn't hang out with him I was "normal"
Might be why 6 out 10 get medicine for it. I also think that the 6 out of 10 are just parents that don't want to be parents. I have a friend who gives their 5 year old patches and it is the saddest thing that I have ever seen. He is so slow, talks slow, repeats himself slowly, has no energy, ect. ect. It is very sad. Then you get to look at his little brother who is being a normal kid who will eventually get on the patch as well.

I'm getting more testing. I saw my doctor today and I took the test and she recommended that I get an actual confirmation from a behavioral health psychologist. I also had some blood drawn to get blood work to see if it's anything else.
