Digital Voice Recorder Needed
 

I work for a newspaper, and I've finally decided (only a couple months in) that it's time for me to replace my standard issue tape recorder for something a little more modern.

Does anyone here have any experience with voice recorders? I'm really looking for something small, powerful, and maybe expandable (i.e. SD cards, etc). It would be a nice bonus if I could use it for file storage as well, but that's not necessary. Really, I just want to be able to record verbal information in a convenient format so that I can search through playback and add cue markers without too much trouble.

Looking on Amazon certainly implies that there are really only two brands to seriously consider, but I'm always happy to entertain opinions.

I use Sony's ICD-U60; it's not the greatest you can buy and you can't add more memory in (but it comes with 512MiB as standard). It's also a little fiddly when it comes to searching through stored recordings - however, it's very compact, lightweight, and sensitive with a good signal-to-noise ratio. If any of Sony's more recent models are as good in that department, I'd be quite happy to spend the money on a new one.

From my searches it seemed that Sony and Olympus were really the only ways to go, but hearing what you and others say, I think I'm just going to go with a newer Sony model and work out the gimmicks later. Thanks! [thumbup]
