Default Woman pushed on to live railway tracks
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/7546046.stm

This happened on the line that runs through my local station.

She shouldn't have been pushed on to the tracks but tbh I would have minded my own business. Yes, technically smoking on the station is illegal but it's open air so it doesn't really affect anybody. And anyway if someone's breaking the rules like that all you'll get is an ear full of abuse anyway.

I don't know about you but I'm sick and tired of people smoking in a congested areas. Especially at bus stops. 90% of the time I go and sit down and wait for a bus some idiot has to lite up a smoke and I get a woof of it in my face.

I ignore it and tend to walk somewhere else only to find there's more people smoking its incredibly annoying. I don't know if its illegal or not to smoke at bus stops but if it isn't it sure as hell should be. It's proven fact that secondhand smoking is worse than actually smoking and I don't want to find out that I've got lung cancer when I'm older because of some jerk.

It can even be worse when your on the bus. Smoking on the bus is illegal but you tend to get people who have a smoke waiting for the bus and when they get on they just have to sit near you and you can smell them badly. Makes it even worse when all other seats are taken[cursing]

Do people that smoke have any idea of how badly they smell after having a smoke? honestly they smell like sh*t from a sh*t smoking factory.

Those guys in that article are jerks and I hope they get punished for what they have done.

Here you cant smoke at bus stops, restaurants or within certain distance of doorways or dwellings. People still do though.

Agreed that smokers don't realise how much they stink even when outside. It's irritating when walking behind someone that smokes or being at a train station down wind from a smoker.
Smokers whinge about being forced out of bars and ****, when for years we have always had to put up with 2nd had smoke that irritates every non smoker.

Same here. It's a good start, but its only really enforced in pub's and restaurants. People smoke all the time at bus stops and in front of doors. Nothing worse than walking out of a building to the stench of smoke while wading through a sea of butts. [cursing]

I hate it when employees smoke in front of the business they work for, very unprofessional.

I love seeing people leave my vicinity when I light up. If you don't like it, then have some balls and say something. Otherwise keep on bitching on the internet and keep on giving us bad looks -- it amuses us.

Whatever your feelings on smoking, these guys need to be caught quickly. Otherwise next time they will probably kill someone.

It'll be 2 years in November since I've given up, and I'm sure all the non-smokers will be having the last laugh on people like you, when your gasping for breath in hospital as you become another statistic of the 130,000+ people that die every year of a smoking related illness.

Not long ago, a friend of my wifes, Who smokes, was in hospital for a check up and whilst there popped outside for a cigarette with my wife (who also smokes) [cursing] , anyway, I told this friend that what she was doing wasn't helping her undiagnosed illness and that she would be better off giivng up, before it was too late, Anyway she laughed and so did my wife, BUT my wife went to her Funeral today, She was 65, not that old, But she was riddled with Cancer.

So take heed, because if you smoke, YOU will die, and it might be before your "time" too.

So think about that, the next time you light up. [thumbdown]

People need to get over the fact that there are others on the planet who choose to smoke. One whiff of cigarette smoke isn't going to kill you and sitting near someone who smells bad, regardless of what that particular smell may be, also isn't going to kill you. This is not a public health issue as much as it is some babies crying.

I'm all for forbidding smoking indoors. Cigarette smoke is much more than just a nuisance indoors and for people with continuing, long term exposure it is a proven health issue. Outdoors, though, get over it. Joe Public is breathing in particulate matter spewing out of cars and trucks, stuffing his face with potato chips and pizzas, burning his skin under the sun, drinking liquor, eating an all sugar diet and who knows what else but it's those couple of cigarette smoke molecules that'll do it, right?

It's ridiculous the way people expect everything to be done for them by nanny state governments that pile regulations on top of mandates on top of by-laws on top of statues and wonder why nobody can figure anything out, why it takes a million people file all the paperwork and why they're always running deficits.

I don't care that you are a moderator because that's the most ridiculous BS I ever heard. You are probably the same person who would like a smoke in a restaurant, ruining someone's meal just because it pleased you. Is it so hard to follow the freaking rules and light up away from the prohibited areas? It's because of people like yourself that regulations are made and need to be enforced.

It's all about respect buddy.

I agree

Most people do a million things that are awful for them yet only complain about certain ones.

She DID have the balls and said something. And what happened? she got thrown onto the railway lines with a broken wrist. She got lucky, she could have been electrocuted to death if she touched both sides of the rails or she could have been run over by a train.
