I agree

Most people do a million things that are awful for them yet only complain about certain ones.
And I disagree. I do however fully agree with the post above you.

People need to get over the fact that there are others on the planet who choose to smoke. One whiff of cigarette smoke isn't going to kill you and sitting near someone who smells bad, regardless of what that particular smell may be, also isn't going to kill you. This is not a public health issue as much as it is some babies crying.

I'm all for forbidding smoking indoors. Cigarette smoke is much more than just a nuisance indoors and for people with continuing, long term exposure it is a proven health issue. Outdoors, though, get over it. Joe Public is breathing in particulate matter spewing out of cars and trucks, stuffing his face with potato chips and pizzas, burning his skin under the sun, drinking liquor, eating an all sugar diet and who knows what else but it's those couple of cigarette smoke molecules that'll do it, right?

It's ridiculous the way people expect everything to be done for them by nanny state governments that pile regulations on top of mandates on top of by-laws on top of statues and wonder why nobody can figure anything out, why it takes a million people file all the paperwork and why they're always running deficits.
Mmm ... Eloquent.

...

BURN HIM, HE HAS POWER OF REASON!!

So others around you deserve to be uncomfortable just so you can feel comfortable? Also it IS a health issue, especially for children who second hand smoke. You talk about one whiff of smoke, how about several whiffs of smoke per day if your a school student who catches the bus to school?

Joe Public is breathing in particulate matter spewing out of cars and trucks, stuffing his face with potato chips and pizzas, burning his skin under the sun, drinking liquor, eating an all sugar diet and who knows what else but it's those couple of cigarette smoke molecules that'll do it, right?
Right so we should all just continue to increase pollution and health hazards right? I thought we where meant to reduce that? electric cars being developed, fatty foods being banned at schools, curfews and drinking restrictions are being put in place, its called suncream and I can honestly tell you that a LOT more people smoke than eat potato chips and pizzas.

It's ridiculous the way people expect everything to be done for them by nanny state governments that pile regulations on top of mandates on top of by-laws on top of statues and wonder why nobody can figure anything out, why it takes a million people file all the paperwork and why they're always running deficits.
You make it sound like one person? we are talking about MILLIONS of people who don't want smoking in public areas.

Than your country must be extremely obese cause for every one person I see eating potatoe chips I see about 20 people smoking.

No, he's right ... There are billions of people who smoke, and many of them never even tried potato chips and pizza (odd combination, but it could work).

Fortunately, that's the only part he is right about.

I don't care that you are a moderator because that's the most ridiculous BS I ever heard. You are probably the same person who would like a smoke in a restaurant, ruining someone's meal just because it pleased you. Is it so hard to follow the freaking rules and light up away from the prohibited areas? It's because of people like yourself that regulations are made and need to be enforced.

It's all about respect buddy.
Nonsense. I explicitly stated that I think forbidding smoking indoors is a great idea. I don't even smoke cigarettes, although I do occasionally smoke cigars outdoors and on my own property. People like me are the reason that you've got any rights left at all because if it was up to a bunch of incompetent bureaucrats, then you'd have someone telling you what to eat and drink, when to sleep, when to poop and how much air you're allowed to use when you breathe.

The eating is already on the verge of happening.

Don't take this the wrong way. By all means I do not want to start an argument with you. To me, though, and I speak only for myself, everything that you said sounds very regurgitated and extremely subjective. Maybe it's something you heard on TV, or heard your father or preacher say once. What ever it may be, it does not sound like something that a person who actually thought about the topic in an objective way would say.

It's absolutely fine to say that you hate cigarettes and people who smoke. It is also fine that you think that banning smoking in public places is a good thing. But disguising your personal and selfish agenda behind a fake concern for human health and hypothetical situations with "so if"s and "could've"s does not make you right about anything. In fact it displays a lack of knowledge and understanding, as well as independent thought process.

Now I agree with you. I couldn't honestly care if people smoke on their own property as they have every right to. But in public areas everyone has a say and I disagree with smoking in public areas whilst others agree that its fine. I can't see how but I'm sure they have reasons.

As for the eating I also agree but I doubt it would get to bad. You can't deny obesity is on the rise because people can't help but by a chocolate bar instead of healthy fruit or something.

I smoke and it really annoys me that people like to harass us all because a few people are inconsiderate.

harass? so its perfectly fine for you people to whiff smoke in our faces in public areas and expect it to be perfectly fine? You smokers make it sound like smoking is actually good for you and others. Lets not forget that you people make the area look disgusting with smoke buds lying everywhere.

Than again you probably wouldn't mind someone dumping rubbish outside your place on the walk way or lighting up bomb fire in the back of their yard covering your house and everyone elses house around you with black smoke.

No one deserves to be harassed, if you are aksed to butt out or move down wind, that is not harassment. When you confront the request with an f-off or such, then it is you who is too blame.

It's really simple, most public place nowadays don't allow smoking, its not personal. Don't take it as such. It is not your god given right to pollute my lungs.

On a side note, I have a son with pretty bad asthma and eczema. He was born with it. I think mostly due to the fact that my wife smoked during her pregnancy. I have two healthy kids who she did not smoke with. Nor does she smoke any longer. Anyway, my point is this, when I am out in public it only takes a whiff of smoke for him to have trouble breathing and/or for a rash to break out.

In the end, I could give a rats ass about how bad people make you guys feel.

Did you not read what I wrote? You are generalising. I said that people (like you) harass people like me (smokers in general) even though I don't blow smoke in peoples faces, nor do I smoke at bus stops, nor do I smoke inside, nor do I throw my buts everywhere. You concern for my health is endearing really, but I really don't give two hoots what you think and I am glad you are not in charge of the country.

As a non smoker, i don't give a damn about your health. If you are so bloody stupid that you have to smoke, good for you; please die fast. But for those of us with enough brains to no suck in that crap, keep it away from us. If i wanted to such an ashtray, I would go do it...

And those arguing about obesity and such - a fat person will not give you cancer. A fat person will not make you hack and cough. A fat person only effects themselves; I can live with that..

I guess you missed my other post hence I thought you where one that does smoke in public. In my other post I said I really don't care if people smoke so long as they don't do it in public. If you smoke in your own little private spots than I couldn't really give a sh*t.

Also I don't give a sh*t about your health if you decide to do bodily harm to yourself. But I do care about my health and the health of younger people. But if you think I'm harassing you then I'm sorry as its not intended for you or people like yourself. Its intended at those greedy SoBs that smoke in public and don't give a sh*t whether people like it or not so long as they like it.

So when a smoker lights up a cigarette and wind blows it in everyones face its not the smokers fault?

Also you've kinda contradicted yourself in your post.

Always so chipper!

In regards to obesity it does effect others when I have someone oozing over the arm rest on me in a movie or on a plane.

If only I was even a fraction as audacious as you, I might only then just maybe begin to think about saying the same about obese people. With that said, I would never say that.
