I just called the Best buy support line. The MS HD-DVD drive DOES qualify for the $50 rebate. So dig up your receipts.

Don't care, but I like free money!

So lets do it this way...

$150 MS HD-DVD drive

$130 (Subtract price of King Kong ~$20)
$100 (subtract price of remote ~$30)
$0 (5 free HD-DVD's if you send in ~$20/ea)

Good deal for me!

Oh yeah, the $50 gift certificate makes it an even BETTER value for me.

Yeah, that works, I like that.

Or if you bought a MS HD-DVD drive for $50 on the clearance deal, you still get 5 HD-DVD's which makes it worth it as you get about $100 in HD-DVD's.

It's a gift card, you're spending the money at Best Buy and probably will end up spending more then $50 once they get you back in the store or online. When Apple did this with the iPhone just over a PRICE drop people still called Apple cheap and that it wasn't enough and now people think Best Buy is caring about the customer? Ha, they're just trying to keep public image high and it gets people buying more stuff. It worked with my Apple credit (I ended up spending about $130 or something with the $100 credit) and it'll probably work with Best Buy.

Me too. When people ask me about other places and show me pcs from other store or what ever the item is I'm honest, if I can save someone 50-$150 by telling them : "Go There instead" or "Buy this and come back tomorrow coz its on sale for $150 off" I let them know. Being honest keeps customers coming back.

Employees may care but corporations rarely care about anything except profits. I mean Best Buy does have a pretty shady record when it comes to screwing the customer.

From what I've heard part timers get most things at cost+5%. Certain product lines (eg Bose) don't apply, though.

This was from a buddy of mine, so I'm not sure how accurate this info is, though.

that is almost correct. (we do get discounts on bose) It really just depends on the margin on things....for example its common knowledge that ipods are not margin rich, you can find them for diferent prices all over the place, its a set price and thats that. apple gets all the profits. A TV though, that a margin rich item, most TV's we sell have atleast $200-300 worth of margin. And if you go to the pioneer elites or any 8k+ TV, it probably has upward of 2k margin in it...

I thought the people that sold the HDTV's and higher end stuff did. I keep hearing employee's hate black Friday but also mention how much they love it because they can clear like a whole extra paycheck just in one day of sales...
