Default Australia's hottest January on record.
Just got back from watching the morning news. Apparently this years January was the hottest ever recorded. And I'm not surprised. Its not every day you get 30C on a raining day. Some places reported 5C above average. Yesterday was shockingly hot, I got out of bed at 5am in the morning (usually out by 11am) because I was sweating quite a lot due to the heat. And today was much the same. But its cooled down a little now at 22C and its raining. And I have to walk to TAFE).

They say its in structure with global warming patterns.

Any thoughts? or whats it like any where else in the world?

I don't get it, what's so bad about 30C? 85F sounds down right pleasant to me.

30c in canada feels like 24 25 c in australia - temperateures and humidity percentages and stuff like that make a massive difference. you can't compare without actually feeling the heat from different countries.

its been ~ -15 - -20 here for the past week, im missing out on going to the beach at home

this feels almost too textbook where they claim:
hot place get hotter and cold places get colder.

While I agree, i forgot to add that we get very high humidity here. You can literally sweat on a raining day, just like today. But its only 22-25C at the moment.

I know Aussies like to gloat about how hot it is... but Phoenix USA takes the cake! Fark is was hot there.

One good thing about the USA is they have ozone. So you can be in the sun without sun cream and not get too burnt, unlike Aussie ozone which will fry you 15 minutes flat.

OMG its Global Warming! Better stock up on supplies before mass social breakdown and panic occurs!!

85f....in Australia, shocker. Houston had some record lows and highs this year.....Global Warming doesnt exist, when you look at weather history, weather is so freaking random and unpredictable that no single event or series of events could EVER define a single occurance.

My ass. This is one of the warmest winters I have ever seen. Throughout January the temperature was about -5 C (+23 F) on average. Usually it's -20 C (-4 F) with peaks hitting well below -40 C (-40 F).

Been to Cairns or further up during Summer? I here its quite cool in Melbourne compared to here (Newcastle or Lake Macquarie region). I'm actually considering going down there. I here houses are cheap, and the cooler weather is a bonus.

And I agree about the ozone. Working on my car on a sunny day for about 15-20 minutes and got pretty bad sunburns on my arms. And I always bring sun cream with me when I go to the beach. I got severely burnt once, had to sleep with a few ice packs, couldn't move, lasted a little over a week before skin started to peel. Than the skin was a funny dark brown, grey colour which was a little odd. I'll never forget that.

And how longs it take in the US before you get sunburnt? I really don't mind the heat, but you only have to forget to put sun cream on, or miss a spot on your body and your pretty much screwed.

I was talking in general, mostly referring to "cold places getting colder" January and February are the coldest months in Finland. The day temperatures will start to rise quite rapidly from March on with the hot sun shining for over 12 hours and increasing every day. Night temperatures will remain well below -10 C still for a long time, though.

I bet it snows there too. I've never even seen snow before. Well I've seen snow in a few TV shows and movies.

Come get all the snow you can carry [rofl] We've got more than enough of it. Gotta shovel off half a meter of snow almost daily from the front yard [cursing]
