Have you tried to obtain counseling in the UK? It's very hard to come by for free if you are an adult.
Yes absolutely no problem through my GP (psychologist). My wife has also had therapy ,she has a different GP from me.And yes if anyone is thinking, I am part of her problem. But we love each other and we have all but got through our bad times, together (and with a little external help).

Imo based on where I have been to, the only person who can truly rid themselves of depression is the person themselves. I have depression that will never truly go away, its something you have for life. However I just try and ignore all the negative stuff and thoughts suicide and focus on the positives. I took an overdose a few years ago which was utterly stupid. But it was the turning point for me. Now I am not suggesting she does anything as silly as that. However I was at my darkest depths I was out of work for the very first time in my life ( been working solid for 12 years previous ) I was in an amazing amount of debt and could not cover my bills.

I decided I did not like being there so kicked myself up the backside. Of course my Mum and Dad got me to see doctors and also to take some tablets. But the doctors do not help, nor do the tablets. Doctors can only analyze based on experiences with others and tablets are only a temporary fix. I did not want to get addicted to tablets, nor did I want someone who does not know me telling me how to run my life.

Fast forward 2 years and I have a successful job which I enjoy. My debts are in control ( will take a while to get rid of but thats entirely my fault ) and I am enjoying life. The best advice I can give is to look at what is exactly bringing her down and either sort it ( if debts for example ) or push them to the back of the mind and focus on the positives of life such as family. I used to help everyone else, but I realized apart from my family the one person who truly matters is myself and now I look after number one.
That's what I once thought (depends upon your definition of temporary)
I felt exactly the same way till I realised that I needed them (prozac) .One day I hope to be free from medication, but my overall mental health is more important.
I'm very pleased for you ,massive achievement and hope for us all

Default Depression help...
Hey guys, some girl online was speaking to me tonight and erm...well, to cut a long story short she's very depressed etc etc. So I had a big talk with her and said I'd try find her some help, thing is she lives in England, Doncaster, so I was just wondering if anyone knew if anywhere in that area or any good places in general she could go to if she wants to try and get her life back on track.

I realise I'm not giving lots of information but if it's required to get anywhere then just say ofcourse...rather strange thread I know :/

Thanks in advance..

GP should be able to provide counselling to start with and can monitor her progress. If she doesn't get on with her GP she should try to find another. That's what they're there for.

Touche is right, her GP would be the best place to start. She could also get in touch with her local "Mind" sevices to see if they can help. Even if they can't help her directly, they will be able to provide information on other local services that can:

I would keep in mind that a big part of breaking free from depression is breaking out of the cycle of negative thinking.

I think you are suffering from a superiority complex

How old is she? Counselling is often not available free to adults.

ive been suffering from depression for about 15 years now, im seeing a phyciatrist which is helping also im on tablets. Im all for the breaking the cycle of negative thoughts but the thing is, its easier said than done, best thing to do is to see your gp and get some advice, they wont have all the answers but they will put you on the right track and may refer you to a pro.

Make her talk to the psychologist. I wouldn't recommend her a psychiatrist cos all he's gonna do is put her on powerful **** like Zyprexa, Zoloft or some other neuroleptics.

Here is a site I found interesting .
GP or if it's a bit more to do with bervment/split up etc ,The Samaritans.

Also all treatment should be free, this is the UK.
And not all tablets turn you into a zombie .Some just help make you feel normal (not like this ******* forum ,beware of ass hats ,they are all over the place ).
