It doesn't make what I said 'not true'. In the UK, people seem much more sensitive to initial costs. There are also many hidden costs on US phone bills.

When I signed up to t-Mobile here, I was charged $30 for each line as a 'connection fee' and whilst my monthly contract for a family plan is supposed to be $80, with taxes and surcharges this is ALWAYS more than $100 a month. In the UK, I had a plan that gave the same number of minutes, plus 50 free texts (I pay $4.99 for 400 here) and it cost 14.99GBP (that's $30) for one line. That included the tax.

My wife and I have paid more per year since we have been here than we did in the UK. I know the surveys say the US is the cheapest for call rates and data charges, but when you throw in the costs for the plans, add-on costs (like texts), phone costs and taxes, it works out a lot more in my experience.

I would have liked to get an ipod touch, but I really wish it would have 30 GB+ storage, and I wonder what the battery life will be?

Why can't they just make it fatter, I mean not and inch brick but damn, even twice as thick, with a massive battery and a harddrive?

How awesome would that form factor (except a bit thicker) and screen size be with even a moderate sized hard disk and 10 hour video battery life?

Not impossible and also a lot depends on how often you change the phone and how expensive phones you choose.

They're making the move to flash, it's a statement as well as keeping things looking nice and small. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last "classic" that shows up. If they can get prices down enough to where 32Gig of flash could be the high end Touch and 16Gig be the low end I could see the classic being done with and the Nano filling it's spot. Then they already have the nice small size and just keep bumping up the storage rather then having to come up with a new case and make it smaller every revision and what not. People will also fast forget about the huge space if the owned a touch before, or knew a friend that had one. A second gen at 32Gig would almost seem more then enough after having these first gen's out and these might hold up better (should) to rough conditions and everything else. If it's got a glass screen with that flash then if you just take care of it a little bit it's going to stay looking great.


Apple has always been about cutting edge with their iPods, hell, I can't even PICTURE something thinning there my iPhone, are we talking Nano thin? God, that would almost make me want to buy a Touch too! That's super insane, then give me 16Gigs, that's a decent amount of video!

At great quality (almost looks prefect on a full screen 13.3 inch LCD) an almost two hour long movie is about 1Gig. So you could stuff like 14 of those on the Touch and still have room for the OS and overhead and stuff. That's like almost 28 hours worth of video. You could probably get to 32 or even 35 and still have TV quality stuff. h264 really is pretty amazing and you'll be able to load it up with like the last three episodes from four or five TV series and put some movies on. I know you love Apple's and all but you can't see my point at all? not everyone cares if it is thin enough to cut my hand...I really DO care about extra battery capacity and storage. 30GB is my minimum as I have to really think about what music I want at that size plus I'll only use a bare minimum of videos. I currently have a Zen Vision M (like a fat classic) and that is my situation. I think the touch ipod looks great and is an awesome product, I just don't see why going thinner than an iphone is a big deal. Why not have 4 times or more capacity and a longer battery life and just leave the thickness alone? (well might not get all that capacity)

Eventually Apple will get the product I REALLY want...they don't scratch so much, they have a cool interface now (not a wheel fan), I just need more 30+ GB. The other improvements are amazing with that completely money screen, and real wifi. It is just capacity (and I am unsure of battery life, but I think they are better now right?)

Do we have solid proof that the touch has the same durable screen as the iPhone?

If yes, is the rest durable as well (metal)?


Battery life probably depends mostly if you leave the WiFi on. The flash memory makes it very easy to get a lot of battery life because you don't have those peaks like when a HD spins up.

I'll be waiting until next year for 32GB iPod Touches. It'll be my first iPod. I can wait. My iAudio m3 has faithfully served me for 4 years and I'm not giving it up yet... dead battery and all.

Yeah I think I am with you there....I'll take a 32GB touch, hopefully with better battery...check out the 160GB classic, that has mad battery life! 40 hours audio and 7 hours video, I mean to be verified and all but even in comparison to the other versions numbers, freaking nice.
