Apple shares plunged more than 5% Wednesday after the company slashed the price on its iPhone, while the Nasdaq Composite Index dropped as economic data and a Federal Reserve report weighed on investors. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1188...oo_hs&ru=yahoo

I just read yesterday that the iphone was the largest selling smart phone in July... So they must feel comfortable, otherwise why did they lower the price so much?

At this point I almost think Apple can do what ever they want. Because they really seem to be in charge of their direction.

All in all a nice line up on the iPods. I think the *itouch is really sexy!

*excuse me iPod touch.

I think I really like the iTouch (), I wonder if you can check your email, download an mp3 attachment and send it straight to a playlist. I foresee hackers tweaking the iTouch OS and make all sorts of programs making it like a little handheld computer. It's really what everyone always wanted, screw the iPhone. If you want a decent phone, then get a decent phone.
Will do... oh wait I already have an iPhone.

They ALWAYS do this to me grrr...

Here I am perfectly happy with my portable music setup, 5.5G 30GB ipod doing great, but NO, apple always do this to me

Now I want a touch, or maybe just a 80gb classic

WHY...WHY DO THEY DO THIS TO ME

I LOVE how they do it mind you, they always make one more desirable right just above the pricepoint of the one you really need or have an advantage/disadvantage

So say for example I really want a touch, which I do, all those advantages, but one big nono....16gb max

So fair enough you say, I'll get a classic 80gb...but wait...the 160gb costs the same as the touch...if I was gonna get a touch, why not get a 160gb...but then why not get a touch and so on and so on

the beat really does go on, 'the beat' refering to the pounding headache you get trying to decide

I WANT A TOUCH BUT WITH MORE MEMORY

Got to be honest, never quite understood the whole movie playback thing. I'd much rather have a nano again that any of those. 90% of the time all of these will sit in a pocket / bag just been listened to. [thumbdown]

I know man, total dagger, two months later, $200 cheaper. Nonetheless I still love the thing and I hope more people will venture out and look into one because they really are great.

What is it with people these days and needing everything to have a camera?
Don't be silly. Everything needs a camera. Even my 14.4 MPix Kodak has a built-in 2.2 MPix camera.

What is surely going to turn into "I told you so" replies about the iphone (even though I love it thoroughly), Apple just announced that the 8GB Iphone is only $399....a full $200 cheaper than yesterday

http://www.engadget.com/
All you N95 bastards will finally shut up about how I should have got a N95 instead of the iPhone now that the N95 is $300 (!!!!!!) more then an iPhone!!!! In fact, if you buy a N95 you're crazy since it's so high priced!

New iPods look great, I can't wait for the wireless store and I really can't wait for the Starbucks deal to go live, that'll be nice and believe me, a lot of people already ask what's playing so there is a demand for buying the music we play in there. I think roll out on that is going to take awhile though, I suspect it's not using the same T Mobile hardware.

I think the Nano is the same or smaller then the old one and that it just looks larger because the factor has change from long and thin to the same ratio.

Anyway, because of new iPods the 5.5Gen I'm selling will now go for $165 plus shipping. It's almost new, comes with box and everything besides ear buds, has a nice iFrogz case, is black, and 30Gigs and just $165 USD. Go look at classifieds.

the only reason to get the 160gb ipod is for bragging rights....coz lets be honest...besides a few select people...who really has 160gb of music....even 80 is a stretch...
video and lossless audio.

I'm also pushing 100 gigs of music currently, so a 160 gig would be welcome to give me plenty of headroom (I hate having to pick and choose what to put on my iPod).

Damn good deal too. $250 for 80 gigs, $350 for 160 gigs.

The touch is definitely a cool piece of tech, but the price per GB is out of my league.

Yep, I've got like 70Gigs of just Loveline episodes, would be kind of nice to just sync them once and have then forever and then toss some music on to fill up the rest of the space.

Apple Inc. slashed the price of the top iPhone by $200 Wednesday to bolster holiday sales, but also angered loyal customers who paid top dollar in the gadget's first 10 weeks on the market.

Sorry I just need to keep the pain in one thread.

Just ordered the new 8 GB iPod Nano! Im going on vacation in a couple weeks and have been wanting to get one for the plane ride. It will also come in handy at work. Got it for $184 with free shipping and free engraving. Not bad.

It seems the new iPods now support component out (even the Nano), although they only support up to 576p (576i for the Touch/iPhone).

It will be interesting to see what the quality is like.

I think the register summed up the iPhone price drop the best:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/09..._iphone_price/

Apple slashes iPhone prices
Slaps 1 million idiots

No, Steve. We didn't miss that last bit.

This morning, after announcing a boatload of brand new iPod and iTunes gizmos, Steve Jobs had one final piece of news for all you Apple lovers out there: He was dropping the price of the iPhone. Little more than two months after it debuted at $599, the 8GB status symbol is now available for just $399.

To summarize, Steve Jobs just slapped one million of his most-ardent supporters.

But whether they realize it or not, Jobs just insulted each and every person who's purchased an iPhone over the past 68 days. He's also robbed them of $200. He spent months telling those one million souls they should spend nearly six hundred smackers on a new user interface, and now, he's admitted this was nothing more than a con job.

And if you bought the thing over the last two weeks, return it - as Apple allows. If you then buy a new one, you'll save $200. And if you don't buy a new one, you'll save $599. When Steve Jobs slaps you, slap him back. ®

not exactly a "con job." More than likely the price drop occured only because of the new iPod Touch. Since it uses the same lcd screen (and likely a lot of the same hardware) apple is able to buy the parts in MUCH larger quantities, thus reducing the price for consumers.

That said, I'd be very pissed if I spent $600 on an iPhone and found out I pretty much wasted $200 to own it a few weeks earlier.
