Back in the old days it was still around 16,000 - 17,000 RPM. With the V10's it was 18,000. With the V8's they can push 19,000 to 20,000 RPM... however with the new engine reliability rules not many teams would push to 20,000 for too long.
I remember hearing those cars at the 1995 Adelaide GP. They sound heaps better in life! You don't hear the uber bassy exhaust sounds on any recordings.[thumbup] |

Some of the engines were designed redline at 22000rpm.

I remember at the Farnborough Air show in I think 01 I saw a McLaren do a few runs on the runway...!
My god did that sound amazing... 3 Litre V10 and the noise was immense. It was ear shattering but what I noticed the most was when it approaches you hear the sound crystal clear but as it moves past you the sound hits you so hard it makes your insides curdle! Amazing experience I will never forget [thumbup] Colour of that Renault F1 engine manifold is shocking, god knows what materials are used in that! |

I live about 10km from the Adelaide F1 track... you could just hear them racing around. When the F1 was on, you knew it was on! ![]() |

This is where it is at for a high performance baby like this.
5.5L V12 Diesel High torque, better economy, and low revving is were its at. [thumbup] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChGGWY_CwO0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MItqDFypDM I have been loving the Touareg with the 5L V10 310/550 from VW when it came out, but I think that the soon be 6L V12 modeled after the R10 motor in the Q7 is going to take the win. 500hp and 738ft.lbs of some monster torque. ![]() Gotta love Diesels. ![]() |
