It probably is, although the Veyron is meant to be limited to it's top speed.
If that where true they would push up that limit 3mph to reclaim the 'fastest production car' label, right? Not that it means much to me, just can imagine it to be a nice sales slogan

I like the late 80's early 90's Camaro. Drop an LS2/LS3 a long with several other modifications and I would be set.

That looks beautifull, not only that but it looks like it could steer to ( which is more then most of the cars posted in this thread, my own submission included.. ).

Its a seriously pretty car. I had the pleasure of watching Bob Bondurant race it (he drove it at Le Mans originally in 1964) and i can tell you it was very impressive, the guy is nearly 80 and there he was drifting this thing through the porsche curves at one in the morning [rofl]

Edit: Here is a bit on the car http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shelby_Daytona

I've got a feeling the Veyron is a bit better to drive at top speed than the Viper. Besides, I wouldn't call a tuned Viper a production model...

Exactly. It's a tuner car - not a production car and apparantly less than a dozen are made. You simply can't call it the fastest production car ever made compared to the Veyron.

Face the fact - that Viper is simply no achievement like the Veyron is, which is built from the ground up to be solid at top speed, drive you in comfort and luxury and handle well around a track even when it nearly weighs two tonnes. I'd have a Veyron anyday.

You can have your $1,440,800 "achievement". I'll take the $225,000 monster that beats it and buy 20 more cars and a fully furnished house.

And like 300 is a "production" number anyways. You shouldn't even be able to claim that unless you're making more than several thousand of a model.

1965 427 Shelby Cobra

It can pretty much smoke anything stock off the line. 500 hp on a 2700 lb. body.

Well.... the viper isn't the best handling car in it's class, and a viper with 1000hp well idk like I said I really would love to see it on a track first [yes] So, raw straight line speed ( something all US Muscle cars excell in ) I expect yes, and I recon it might be able to keep up and maybe surpuss the Veyron idk could be.... But I don't believe untill I see it with my own eyes that it can handle a track like a veyron can.

Ow and to be honest, since I wouldn't even be able imagine being able to pay for the veyron, and the alternative is priced allot lower... Well it's not actually competition either, with the Veyron you could do groceries without problems, and it's a pretty practical car considering it's price segment

Funny... it seems to wipe the floor with everything thrown at it every year on every magazine (C&D, MT to list a few) and wins the road course test every time. Yeah, it can't turn worth ****...

Neither can the slightly modified stock SRT-10, which won the 2004 and 2006 Formula D Championship.

Neither can the previous gen's GTSR's (yes I know they have different suspension setups) which won at Le Mans in the GT2 class in 98 and 99. Also won the GT2 manufacturer's world championship every year from 98-02.

But yeah you're right, they suck at handling...

I would hope a car that costs almost six times what the 1000 costs would beat it on a road course. I would hate to have wasted all that money to not be the best.

In any case, you don't buy a Veyron when you have only a couple of mil, you buy it when you have a couple of hundred million dollars. Oh **** ! They ask you first if you want to buy one.

like its not tuned enough...? Any more HP and this car is going to need to be made of coolant to run without blowing up. This car isn't exactly a vanilla N/A model, which is why all these people arguing an unfair comparison between a "tuned" car and a "production" model is moot.

What I find hilarious is the fact that they even have to bring in a Veyron into this discussion to make their comparison competitive.
