I heard it's only GSM and not 3G. Which makes this phone 100% useless for anything internet related. I don't count wireless because wireless access is hardly something easy to come by. I want to use the phone on the net wherever I am using the mobile network. [thumbdown]

If I'm wrong correct me. But apple has screwed up big time using slow old mobile tech.
No, you're right, it only supports the EDGE data network (not HSDPA or what not). However, I don't believe this to be much of a problem since 3G is only in like 60 major markets in the US right now. Most the time unless you live in and don't leave a big city you'll be on the slower EDGE network. Why make the phone thicker and have a worse battery life when A LOT of people probably will never roam into range of a 3G network. I expect it to be at least a year if not two before ATT is able to roll 3G network wide, by then we'll see a second gen. Should you wait for that one? Maybe, but then you can't use an iPhone for another year, for me I really wanted to use iPhone now and I can't blame Apple for our crappy networks in the US and a mix of standards. By the way, this is the first reply I have made that has NOT been from my iPhone, ya, you can use the internet on WiFi or not.

Are those phones really as huge as they look? They're as big as my miniXDA but without (apparently) most of the features
No way, they are so slim! I'll take pictures a little later and compare it to something but man it's so small feeling! The phone fits just right in your hand, the screen seems huge and when you slide it into your pocket you forget you even have it with you! It's really amazing how small it feels yet how big and easy it feels when you're touching the screen for the keyboard or changing setting or something.

the iPhone is a really cool integration of features, looks damn sweet, and thank god it has a killer battery life (a miracle for an iProduct!)

No removable storage, no swappable battery, forced data plans, no real buttons at all, no stylus, EDGE only...well there is a whole list of things that make it less appealing. It has the sex appeal, and slick operation no doubt.

Still I would rather have the sucessor to my phone (I have a samsung i730) the Samsung i760 (not out). Swappable batteries, memory, real buttons, stylus games.

Well maybe a gen 2 iPhone...but probably a windows mobile phone that takes the good (rips it off) but allows me the customization and user power I want.
I really don't understand this whole removable storage thing. Is eight gigs not enough to hold someone over for 24 hours or hell, maybe two or three days if you're going on a trip? Do you really want to carry two or three flash cards with you all over the place? I want just one thing to carry around, that's all, but that's just me. The battery really isn't too much of a problem for me. I was able to leave my house at 11am the other day, use EDGE and wifi for probably an hour total, have the phone not be charged all day, and spend about 3 hours and 20 minutes total talking on it before I started to charge it again at like 11pm. I think I got a 20% battery life warning just a few minutes before I started to charge it. Now I had wifi on for a good hour or two while I was on a phone call, if I had turned that off maybe I would have even done better. Again, I don't want to carry two or three batteries with me, when I travel I take my charger and when I don't, it seems to last me all day fine.

So pics of it or it didn't happen glad you got one thou enjoy!!!
I'll get pics soon, my family has been up these last few days and I've been pretty busy.

He is probably far too happy enjoying his brand new phone to worry about what some bitter people on the internet think, although I'm sure he appreciates your concern.
He should be. My concerns are usually $5.95 + $1.84 S&H + $.05 bottle deposit + Tax (only in MA, NY, TX, AK, ND and Washington D of ****ing C).

But anyways, the iPhone looks cute, have fun with it and try to catch some dumb (but easy) pussy with it while it's still fresh and cool.

I don't expect iPhone to help me at all with that. I don't think many chicks would even notice what it is or really care after half a second of "wow, that's kind of cool".

Edit:
Wait, I take that back. There was this really cute ATT rep that started remember me after like the second time I dropped by the store asking about the phone. On the 29th when I was in line every time I would peer into the store with the rest of the line and she noticed she would point at me and wave and get this giant grin and never did that with any of the other people and I know they went down to the store just as much if not more then me. She either liked me and was making an effort to single me out or she thought I was somehow funnier then everyone else that was waiting for the phone.

Why make him feel like crap for buying something he wants?
Because it's fun, it's apple, it's acarney. But I will give him credit. He didn't start a "Please send me money so I can buy an IPhone" thread. His panhandling has completely ceased.

If you can't catch an easy lay with a culturally desired object such as an iPhone, then you're either stupid or a rookie.

When people complain about the lack of 3G, remember that this is the US version of the iPhone. The N95 doesn't do 3G in the US ether because the US use different frequencies to Europe.

The biggest turn off for me about havinga a combined MP3 player and phone is that I don't care too much if my MP3 player battery runs out, but I do care about my phone. So if they're the same device, I'm always going to be battery watching every time I'm listening to music. That's one of the main things that puts me off really.

I haven't really listened to too much music, in fact just today I actually just dropped my first 100 songs on here. If quoted battery times really hold up then you probably could listen to five hours and still have enough battery to standby for at least a day plus maybe two hours of talk time. So far I'm pretty impressed with battery life, which isn't comman with any device.

iPhone does warn you when your down to twenty percent battery life but I haven't timed how much standby or talk time that would get you.

The technical features quoted on the us nokia homepage are identical to the european. why shouldnt it support 3g? Sometimes people travel and might end up in a country with 3g....

That's what it says here:
But the N95 has a similar problem as the iPhone when it comes to data; in the USA, it is restricted to a slow EDGE connection. With the iPhone, that's because Apple decided to use this to save battery power, but the N95 just doesn't support the right frequency bands for US high speed data use. http://www.wirelessinfo.com/content/...omparisons.htm

The iPhone is the same "fashion stuff" as the iPod and nearly all other Apple-products...

I mean, yeah, there are BETTER mobile phones than the iPhone, and YES, there are BETTER MP3-players than the iPod, but people like it, because of their design and the "apple" on it, and they buy it!! That's great for Apple, isn't it??

If you don't want an iPhone, go and buy a N95 or whatever, if you like the iPhone, go and buy one!! ;-)

that's easy, isn't it? :-P

I would never buy anything that's more "fashion" than "function", but some people don't care and buy "fashion"...

'ya ever asked a women what all this silver stuff around the neck is for?? :-P

Alright.. it talks about not being able to use the US high speed service....

Not about 3g. If the americans need another standard then we do, i guess they are out of luck. Still it would offer the 3.6 mbit downloads if the service would support it. not exactly the phones problem.

How's the GPS? Oh, it doesn't do that, sorry. - GPS is standard on other phones?

Still the cam must be good. What's that, 2 Megapixels? No worries, I'll bluetooth one of my 5MP pics over... WTF, You cant? - 5MB files via bluetooth... meh, I think I'll use the 11MB/sec wi-fi. A 5MP sensor doesn't take a great picture if it's 0.35mm in size and stuck behind a 4 mm lens.

Oh well. What ringtones you got? I use any in my music playlist. WTF? Are you sure you cant? The only people who use songs as ringtones are kids - the iPhone wasn't designed for kids. Of course there are some adults who does this as well, but lets not go there...

Oh well, Just install some games and apps and it'll be great. WTF do you mean no games or apps? FFS, next you'll be telling me theres no 3g.... Yes, there are games and apps... where did you read there wasn't, in Apple Basher Weekly? There is no 3G on your precious Nokia in the US either... point?

I wish I would have filmed this conversation on my N95...... what, the Nokia phone with the battery life of around 10 hours on standby? That one?

Did anyone actually say the iPhone did everything?

No 3G is fine for me.... I never made a single video call when I had 3G phones... too expensive and too few people with 3G phones.
