I was working in a PC shop a couple of years ago and a customer came in and asked my supervisor for some memory. The convo went something like this

C: I want some memory

S: ok what type?

C: I dunno you guys should know

S: Ok....who made your pc? Or what type of cpu does it have in it

C: Its custome made and it has a amd athlon in it

S:: Ok that chip is rather old so the memory you need might be SD memory but i am not sure. Bring in your computer and i will check.

C: yeah SD sounds right. Do you guys have any? I need 512mb

S: I am not sure if you need SD or not. And no we dont sell any. but the computer store down the street does.

C: Ok

The next day

C: Hey you guys told me the wrong type of memory

S: Yeah i said i wasnt sure. I told you if you brough your pc we could have checked for you

C: Well i went to the other store bought the memory and now they wont take it back.

C: So i think you guys should reimburse me cause you were wrong

S: What?

C: I want you guys to give me my money back

So at this point i am trying not to laugh outloud. My supervisor said he would buy the memory off him but wont give him the full price. The customer was REALLY mad and i didnt see him again

Your tech support is an 0900 number?
If you had a female co-worker, you could have asked him to hold the line and transferred the call to her

Yea i've experienced some of the share of customers while doing PC repairs. So i just quit before i got started on that career.

Once my class in college was offering free PC repairs supervised by our instructor. this lady brought in pretty simple small PC case. It had colored pencils mark written all over it. When i hooked it up to the montior i tried to put in floppy disk but it wouldnt go all the way in so i glanced inside floppy drive and i see a couple of broken pencils stuck in there. So while i got that stuff out i felt something still moving around in the PC case so i took it apart. Looked clean so while i was taking out cd rom it still had that rattling feeling to me so i took that cd rom drive apart and found shattered disc in there. Amazing that everything still worked fine.

Anyway i learned 1 thing... I REALLY HATE celly PCs with win ME in it. Most PC of those type would usually have only 128 MB RAM or 64 MB.

Default So what your saying is... You're an idiot?
Seriously, sometimes I think either I'm grossly over intelligent (unlikely) or the people I serve at work and just ridiculously stupid (to the level of in-breeding).

Scenario for you:

A 6 month old basic base system, with XP installed. Stuffed full of every imaginable virus and spyware infection you can imagine. Try 12,000+ Virus's and then another 2600+ Spyware issues after the virus scan. Now picture a very posh lady who claims to "Lecture in Computers". This is the result.

Me: Hi, I'm calling from *** computers regarding the PC you left with us?

C: Yes?

Me: We've finished working on it. It was pretty much stuffed with virus's and spyware but does seem to be OK now.

C: OK, I'll be down later to fetch it.

Me: Bear in mind there's a £15 charge when you collect.

C: Excuse me?

Me: Bear in mind there will be £15 to pay when you collect the PC.

C: I don't think so, I bought it off you in December.

Me: Yes, but warranty only covers physical defects, filling the PC with virus's isn't a warranty issue.

C: Well I'm not paying it, you should have protected me against virus's!

Me: Well, you did have a pre-loaded free antivirus on the PC, but it had been disabled?

C: That stupid thing kept popping up about infected files when I was downloading, so I turned it off. Anyway, that's not the point, you should have prevented it!

Me: Madam, if you decide to turn off the Anti-Virus protection when it's warning you about virus's, then what exactly are we supposed to do?

C: You could have told me that if I turned it off I could get infected! Don't you have any clue about customer service?

Me: Madam, in the end, if you wish to ignore warnings, disable free software that we provided and continue to download infected files regardless. Well, there is very little I can do to stop you. I can however charge you for the repairs required to fix your PC. I will note your antivirus has been re-enabled and updated for you.

C: Well I'm not paying, I'll phone trading standard and have you shut down!

Me: Would you like their number?

C: F*** YOU!

HAHAHAHAHAHA that's why i don't work retail anymore. Most customers are freakin' retards and they seem to get nastier every year. I lost patience for that ****. IMO that woman should just be shot.

On another note i think that before ur alowed to shop you must work a retail job for at least one year first lol

Oh, and yesterday we had a little Ginger haired boy racer start shouting and swearing (brewing up to take a swing at somone I think) because I said I wouldn't reload Windows XP on his PC until he showed me a legal XP Licence.

"can't you just f***ing load it?"

not without a licence

"F***ING USELESS W**KER!"

When he pulled off in his BRIGHT YELLOW PUNTO WITH 3 FOOT SPOILER he nearly crashed into an oncoming car.

Still, it might have made his BRIGHT YELLOW PUNTO look a bit better.

when I do a repair or built I make people sign at the bottom of the reciept

spyware & virus infection are not covered or warrantied..
Problem is we'd have a 20 page document covering things like:

"I accept that filling my PC with chocolate pudding and then setting it on fire is not a warranty issue."

Bear in mind we had somone come in who poured Fairy Liquid on a CD then put it in(he wanted to clean the lense apparently), consequently bringing the DVD Writer back the following day.

God when I think. Monday, when all those storms were over the UK it was torrential down here. There was like a 3 inch deep puddle outside our shop.

I saw a guy walk up to the door with a PC WITHOUT THE SIDE ON, put it down IN THE PUDDLE, then casually pick it up tipping the water out.

He even looked shocked when I said I wouldn't touch it for 72 hour so it could dry out.

hahaha, one time when i worked for staples i was looking eye level at a PC and the customer blew into the computer and got dust in my eyes...what an idiot. Who does that!? Computer level customer service is the worst since people who have no idea about anything computer related and try to argue with the worker....the guy who DOES know what he's talking about.

when I was in high school I worked at a gas station and this guy came in complaining his car was over heating, so I asked him to pop the hood and I would check it..

as I bent over the radiator he opened the cap and boiling water hit me in the face..

what a dipshit..
lol that's insane. That's worse than my situation. It creates such an awkward moment because the guy is just looking at you like "oops" and it's hard to react to that without making a scene.

I'm not sure how you reacted, but I think I would have started swinging...a tire iron. [shocked]

I really wish common sense was something that could be taught. Some people are just so damn stupid.

I don't know why they call it common sense, it's far from common.

I can't stand people who lack any bit of common sense. Or people who think they know about something, when they're totally f'ing clueless, and then argue with someone who DOES know what they're talking about. If you're clueless go ahead and make some educated guesses. I won't laugh. But when you argue and think that you're 100% correct when you're just pulling things out of your arse you need to be slapped.
