I quit smoking, but somehow never seemed to manage to deal with stress in another way then the one's I was used to... And only now I am starting to see what a frickin lame excuse that is... but I'm sure I'll use it again
![]() I did quit for 8 months but nah... I said when I was young that I would stop when I became 28, that didn't fly... I said I would quit when I became a dad, which happend two day's ago... let's just say I'm repeating bad habits ![]() Think Langaleer provided a pretty good example, you need a desire to change one's lifestyle which is bigger then the ease off doing things in the same manner as you have done before. For him it was the friend who hated smoking, or atleast he used that as a vision. You know I want to see my kid grow pretty old, and I'm 28 but smoking with my genetic background will most probably make sure past 40 I'll carry a o2 bottle since my family has a 80% chanche to develop http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emphysema at the age of 40 when smoking. Then again, I been smoking since I was 16 and even if I did quit now that 80% might nudge some 5% but getting below 70% will be a bitch... Idk, smoking sucks... if you're reading this thread and haven't smoked one yet, when someone offers you a smoke, thank them for the 'gift' but don't take it ![]() Vlad man, haven't seen you in weeks. We talked about smoking on msn last time and you promised me you'd quit again, don't go break your word on me. Btw, there is a thread in gd posted by me which might intrest you I'm to lazy to link 2nd night where sleep is something which is scarce ![]() |

I quit 3 years ago - after about 7 years of smoking
started up again like 2 weeks ago - only to lose some weight - and god it works - like about 10 pounds in 2 weeks - my wife quit the same time I did - so this spell of smoking thing is limited to losing a bit more weight (I don't hide it) - once I am back to around 160-170 - going to stop (round 220 now) (..less beer worked wonders also..). But I quit before - can do it again . . . I'm familar to what's involved. |

I only smoke sometimes in a weekend, but I'm not addicted. I just smoked for the initial nicotine "flash" I would get from it. Now that's gone I'm not gonna smoke anymore. I wonder why people keep smoking for so long as the taste is seriously disgusting and once you don't feel any effect anymore it's useless as well. You must smoke a lot to get addicted from it.
Also I wonder if you go to a bar where people smoke a lot, does that have any influence on you if you stopped smoking? Doesn't the smell make you wanna smoke again? |

I quit 3 years ago - after about 7 years of smoking Having common sence to use some attainable form of dieet pills ( preferably the one's which work by speeding up the metabolism ) > using the only positive thing which can be said in favour of smoking to negate the hundred's of other reasons which make it a lethal drug Both just imho that is.... Just that someone publicly propegrating the use of cig's to loose weight should be put in place [cursing] |

I smoke and I don't have any health problems. I smoke around 20-25 cigarettes a day, although it's natural fresh tobacco ie BaliShag or Samson. I also play basketball at least 2 hours a day and I don't get winded at all. My throat and lungs don't hurt and in my mind I owe it all to fresh BaliShag tobacco. It also could be because I am 20 and I have been smoking for only 2.5-3 years, but I haven't seen any endurace or health decrease since I started smoking hand-rolled tobacco. I recommend it for anyone who smokes. Rolling your own cigarette can get pretty ugly at first but after a few months you'll become a pro at it.
It can also be genetics. My grandfather smoked since he was 12 and he's still going at a ripe age of 78. |

I smoke hand rolled to, Javaanse Jongens 3/4 for the EU people, you're almost acting like it's healthier to smoke without a filter then with... You know it doesn't really matter right? Some cigarette's will be bleached more thus having more cancer causing substances but less tar... Doesn't matter that much cancer is bad as is having tar filling up your lungs... So, smoking is bad, you say you don't notice any health effect, want to bet if I done a factual study on your lung capacity and oxygen levels in your blood it would show otherwise... Don't like people representing things wrong, that and I'm at sleepless ( well 3 hours ) night 2 in a row so maybe I seem a litle bit grumpier now. Horror, thought that smoking on the work place is already banned, here it is atleast. |

Weighing 30 pounds more then you'd want < health risk of smoking again the thing is I gained 60 pounds in 3 years - and when I did quit 3 years ago - I really didn't find it hard at all. I almost enjoyed the "high "well, brain-burn (good way to put it ...)"" it gave me. Anyway - When I feel the urge to eat off mealtime - I've been lighting up - and that's it. as I see it 10 pound in 2 weeks - means that I'll get to 60 less in 2 months If I keep at it and especially drink less beer. My wife auctually keeps my cigs - and while she is eating the cheesecake - I'm outside with a chesterfield. (she half-way supports it) But it's a personal choice and 1 that is working ((for me)) and I don't mean others should follow. But in the end - I'm more ashamed of the 60+ pounds extra than the 5 cigs a day I've turned back to - for the short-run. And it's not like I'm inactive other than sitting behind this darn computer at work - I rollerblade, mountain bike, ski, snowboard, play ice hockey when I can, go for 2 hour + long walks when I can - but I need get transfered from this darn desk job 8 hours a day of sitting on my arse - but I can't @ the moment ... When I quit, I was 70 kilos - I'm breaking 100 now - 30% more mass - no thank you. |

got an odd question for ye. I can't say we ever used chewing gum to help us give up cancer sticks. Both me (and the then fiancee, now wife) decided to give up about three years ago. We decided to take the Cold Turkey route. We decided when we would do it, had our final cigarette at midnight on the Saturday evening, threw away what cigarettes we had left and let nature take it's course. Here we are three years later. Since that final midnight cigarette my other half has never had a single cigarette and I've had one. (I lied and made the mistake of not throwing away the cigarettes I had left, so 24hrs later I had one - so I've officially been a non-smoker for a day less than my other half). It was the best thing we ever did. We saved a hell of a lot of money, both of us felt healthier and neither of us now stink of cigarettes. Personally I'm looking forward to July 1st when we more or less go smoke free. |

Another law maybe? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6226468.stm
Personally, I think all this non-smoking stuff is absolutely brilliant. And the laws which are put in place are great, the UK have really hit smoker's hard, which really can only be good for them in the long run [yes] The week of 1st July will be brilliant, going to clubs without anyone brushing it against my nice shirts...No waking up in the morning, and the room just smelling of smoke stained clothes...Brilliant!! [thumbup] I wonder in a few years time, how much smoking related deaths have decreased. |
