Default Is there a doctor around? (heart problems)
About 3 weeks ago i went to the doctor to get a checkup on what i thought was heart problems.
I started having bad pains in my chest, but just the left side where my heart is.
so to make a long story short, the doctor listened to my heart and did an EKG, said i had a textbook perfect reading. and didnt hear anything in my chest. doctor came to the conclusion that i drink to much caffiene products. i was drinking 6 or 7 cans of Mountain dew a day, and some energy mints. well i threw out the mints and now drink cokes, only 1 or 2 aday. and its been about 3 weeks of switching to less caffeine and my chest pains are still here.
I was reading webMD and went through there symptoms checklist, and i figured out, that i dont have these chest pains in the morning, but as the day wears on if i wake up at about 7am ill start feeling pains at about 9 or 10am.
I dont have insurance and i dont know what to do. im only 23 and my family doesnt have a history of heart problems.
I dont exercise as much as i should and i dont exactly always eat healthy. but i have severly reduced my caffiene intake. but my chest pains just wont go away. im not sure whatelse to do except go back to the doctor?
Since this occured ive had an Irregular heart beat, itll throw in an extra beat every now and then. While the doctor said that its normal, i deffinatly did not have an irregular beat before i started having these pains.

I had chest pains a decade ago and it turned out to be bad posture as I sat at work. But again, you should get a second professional opinion because heart issues aren't something to be taken lightly.

I would insist on a full check up, I do have a family history of heart problems (my uncle and grandad both died quite young from cardiomyopathy and my son has serious heart problems) and even then I had to push a bit but happily it came back normal.

One or two cans of Coke per day is still unhealthy on a number of levels. Aside from the obvious, drinking more than 355ml (one can) per day of any carbonated beverage puts you at a 400% increased risk of esophageal (throat) cancer, which is almost always fatal, and incredibly painful.

So there's some additional incentive to cut out the sugary drinks.

I had a similar problem about 4 months ago. I went to the emergency room and a $1200 bill later it turned out to be nothing. Like these guys have said before, see another doctor. What helped me oddly was to lift a 10 lbs weight a couple of times. That got rid of the pain but I don't know about that irregular heart beat. Your body still needs to adjust to have regular levels of adrenaline you know have instead of the massive flow you had before. Make sure you have correct posture as well.

Uhgg... /loves carbonated drinks
will take that advice though and cut back abit more.

But ya like i said i dont have insurance. so its literally going to cost an arm and a leg for another visit.
like a months rent or so... so unless i have to i kinda dont want to.
Aswell im abit scared. i mean comon im 23? 23yr olds arent suppose to be having heart issues.
Could it possibly be anything else?
Heartburn, i havnt tried and heartburn pills might try that see if it helps at all.
it doesnt feel like heartburn though.
Kinda feels like pushing on my chest on the left side where the heart is.
But its not so bad as to where im like, **** i need to goto the hospital just uncomfortable pain constantly throughout the day.
When i went to the doctor the first time was when it was the worse. the night before i was laying in bed and the pain was keeping me awake and i seriously thought i was having a heartattack right there. but i eventually feel asleep and things were 1/2 fine the next morning.

keep shooting some more opinions please.

also ill try and lift alittle weight when i get home see if that does anything

Sounds like heartburn or anxiety issues.

But even 1 can of Coke a day could severely aggrivate heartburn/acid reflux/etc. Lots of acid in a Coke.

heh.....
well ive already waited 3 weeks from when i first went to the doctor. and the pain hasnt been as severe as when i first started getting the pains, which to me is a good sign.
but for it to still be present kinda contradicts that.

aswell... what does a heartattack feel like? and should i be carrying around 2 asprin for if i do have one? :\

If you have a heart attack I don't think you'll be reaching into a pocket looking for aspirin then walking over to get a glass of water. The best description I've heard of a heart attack was from my fiance's father. He said it felt like an elephant was standing on his chest.

Any chest pains should be seen to right away, if you're really that worried skip the doctor and go to the hospital for a checkup.

It could just be something like muscular pains of the chest.

It took me 3 doctors to finally get a result with my condition. I kept getting a very high racing hearbeat when I was in my teens, even just a simple walk up the stairs and I was pumped with adrenaline.

I had a terrible self awareness of my own heart too, especially at night which pointed right to the problem of a sinus tachycardia. All fixed now, even if it does take 3 pills a day for the past 10 years. Stupid adrenal gland!

Just go get it sorted, reading up about stuff, although interesting, will only panic you more and could make your symptoms worse with stress.

Thats a helluva lot of Mountain Dew! farrrr farrr farrr more than anyone should take in. Maybe you've damaged something and although you've cut back the damage has been done?

7 cans a day, 49 per week, 217 a month....

ya actually...
for the past... 3 maybe 4 years i drank nothing but mountain dew ;\
what can i say, it tasted good and i liked it.
i ofcourse didnt think anything like this would happen
so yes that is ALOT of MD.

damaged something i hope not..
im going to go home today after work , and try lifting some things around the house like the one guy said.
see if that helps any, if i had insurance id be at the doctor right now.
like i said though you know pulling 400$ or more isnt really possible, otherwise i wont have a place to live... and my friends are just as broke so i wouldnt bother them with this.
you guys are really great for the responses though.
