What does this little bit mean...
From the Formula One web site – Following a last-minute change to the 2007 Formula One Sporting Regulations, Bridgestone have confirmed that they will make their two specifications of dry-weather race tyres visibly different from each other. Drivers must use both compounds during each race. http://www.formula1.com/news/5729.html I understand that Bridgestone needs to put some kind of marking on the tires so media and viewers can tell the difference while the race is running but what’s up with the little bit saying that the driver must use each compound? Does this mean there will be a softer compound for cars that are better setup for soft tires and maybe a harder compound for cars that seem to burn up the tires faster and needs a longer lasting compound and every team will be FORCED to use at least one set of each during the race? This is the first time I’ve heard anything about forcing teams to use both options of tire compounds. I thought it was just moving to one manufacture with multiple compounds with the teams having the options to pick which one they want to use. |

Seems as though they want to make sure that fast runners don't get into a nice rythme by using a compound that suits the weather and or setup they have. Seems yet another addition to the mounting luicrous number of overly complicated ideas they want F1 to use!
Not really a sport anymore, I will still watch it but its becoming a joke IMO |

I'm guessing it will be the same as currently in Champcars in the States. Everybody will have to drive atleast once with each tyre compound. So everybody will be on the same boat as far as using the tyres. Some cars might work better with the harder tyres but will have to drive with the softer tyres in the race anyway for 1 stint and vice versa. Softer tyres are supposed to be faster so a team might opt to use soft tyres for a stint in the middle of the race to get by their opposition.
This add one more variable into the race which will make it more intresting, because francly it can't get much more boring can it? [surrender] |

Original thinking. Did you get that out of a cereal box? Ayrton Senna died due to a safety overview, he was the greatest driver of all time. The repercussions of this was the sport went over the top for safety. This included removing slicks ( which is the main reason for less overtaking ) downgraded engines and less speed. I have no problem with making the cars physically safer ( the shell that protects the driver in a crash etc ) But when you start removing the danger and excitement out of the sport, it becomes boring. The fact of the matter is if you have no overtaking, F1 is utterly pointless. I remember when tyre changes were of vital importance in terms of speed. It was exciting as you were waiting to see who would make it out of the pits first. |

What? Let me explain it to you in layman terms, as you seem to have trouble understanding and think you are smart by posting cocky, irrelevant comments. [rofl] Pit stops still happen?? |

Slicks weren't removed for safety reasons, if anything it makes the cars less safe. Pitstops happen, but we dont need fuel stops. The speed at which tires were changed could make a huge difference in a race. |

Well I am still looking forward to this year. Hamilton looks like he could be the next MS. I wouldn't be surprised if in a year or twos time, people are saying it is a shame MS never got to race against Hamilton, just like Senna never really got to race against MS.
I know of the McLaren sponsors and was saying the other day that Hamilton is currently in a lot better shape than Alonso. |

something needs to be done, if they go too far with safety already in terms of the speed and excitement because the racing is slower and fewer overtaking manovers
it says something when the bugatti veyron is quicker than an f1 car in a straight line, yet the sport is supposed to be the pinical of motor engineering |

I don't care about top speeds or what, even if the Veyron is quicker on the straight line, I want to see hard fights again, like they were with Senna, Prost, Mansell etc.!! Those 10x overtaking in one lap etc!! THAT was real racing!! my point was they have the technology to go faster, but because of too many rules and safety fears they have slowed the cars down which means its not as good to watch |

Like everything these days, health and safety stick their ore in everywhere. They need to be put on a sodding leach, have far to much control!
I mean even in the U.S you are getting random stuff like safety notices on your Dodge SRT10 to make sure your aware the side exhaust pipes might get hot and could burn you on exit of the car..... UK is the worst, after reading Jeremy Clarksons more recent book he explains what was necessary for them to test 100 quid cars on a Top Gear episode.... forms forms forms, fire trucks, safety advisor..... etc and this was before the Hammond crash [cursing] |
