Not at all, your car will love you, but try 3rd or 4th gear instead!

why would you want to start in second anyways? you can feel/hear/see the sxtra strain it puts on your car for no reason at all.

See it's all a government conspiracy, no one needs to use 1st gear!

Equally you dnt need reverse either, just get out and push it back to where you want to go.

works fine in most diesels, whereas some petrol cars just stall when pulling away in 2nd.

It may come in handy in snow or on icy roads.

Driving with a Protoge 5, I usually pull out in second unless I need to get out of where I am going faster. I don't really see a problem with it.

Doesn't it kind of depend on how big 1st gear really is? My friend had an old Saab and he never even used 1st because 1st and 2nd pretty much overlapped and there was not much strain on the car when starting from 2nd.

Same here, depends on the torgue of the engine of course and you'll have to give it a bit more throttle and release the clutch a tad slower..

nothing bad about it though. Just pulling up a little slower is all that happens.

Quite interesting about starting off in 2nd for icy/snowing conditions. I guess that's when you don't want much torque.

Anyhow for normal conditions I'd start off in first as I'm sure you will wear your clutch out faster. Other than that it shouldn't damage anything else in your car.

If its downhill and the car is rolling etc then 2nd is fine, otherwise I aint gonna burn out my rather expensive new clutch.

if the cars still moving or is able to roll downhill, then second is usually ok.

First is only really necessary to get you moving, second is where it at people! But then its more tricky for me as my A3 has quattro so its definitely a good idea to move off in first then go to second!

Well if you let the clutch out very slow and give it plenty of gas it sounds normal, but damn in the 91' volvo 270 it was slow as ****...i felt like grannie
