What? You spout out some asinine crap about having no problem running people over. Then again, you're probably in the ill informed group that subscribes to the idea that cars have the absolute right of way over bikes/pedestrians [rolleyes]

A joke like what? Advocating hitting people? It was a terrible joke if that was the intention, and if not it was just an absolutely moronic comment. I'll take it that you're not a cyclist because it doesn't sound like you've ever had to deal with someone who wants you off the road (and they'll get you off the road any way they see fit) for the sole reason of not being in a car.

I've watched the video, I posted a link with may others like it. I certainly don't advocate what they do and as Bungle said, they give other cyclists a bad name. That said, I fail to see what the purpose of your comment was other than to post some narrow-minded crap. Certainly you’ve dealt with cars who have disobeyed the law and annoyed you, did run into them as you said you’d have no problem doing to the riders? Or is it because of how one sided a car/bike accident is that you feel so confident acting tough? Or is this just some classic e-thuggery?

When you drive in NYC where there are crazy bus drivers, crazy cab drivers, crazy delivery van drivers, crazy bike messengers and delivery-men, with cop cars and fire trucks and ambulances, with traffic that turns a 4 lane avenue into a parking lot, pedestrians jay walking, bums selling you crap through the driver-side window, pot holes, pot heads running in the middle of a busy avenue, crack heads jumping out of the parked cars screaming at you, I would be surprised if you didn't have a thought everyday of just ending someone's life... Especially people on bikes, they pop out of no where and they don't care for any road rules.

I've got a titanium rod running the inside length of my right humerus after it was shattered by being hit by a boat while on a jetski. I know all about the situation of 'big vehicle/little vehicle' accidents.

Surely they wouldn't pull infront of my car expecting me to hit the brakes. Such foolhardy thinking will result in somebody getting turned into road pizza.

So with all those problems you just listed the one you have a prob with is; guys on bikes not obeying proper traffic laws??

The whole reason those guys ride like that is beacuse they can do whatever they want. If you ride at a proper speed and follow all the rules just sell your bike and walk.

You stop for the red light, im going straight through.

No, they probably expect you not to do something rash like purposely lurch foward, open a door, etc. You seem to be of the mindset of hitting them just to teach them a lesson (i.e. you're king of the road), not because it was an accident.

Thats kind of a disapointing view. If you are on a bike at a red light and there is no-one crossing, then fine, go through the red and carry on.

In that video however, pedestrians were having to jump out of the way of these irresponsible cyclists at the last minute - IMHO crashing reds in that kind of fashion is totally inexcusable.

Cyclists have worked hard enough to get some respect and visibility on the road, and we really don't need idiots like those shown in the video to set everything back several steps.

Preach on!

I'm a cyclist myself and am constantly nerve-racked over vehicles. I've nearly gotten into so many wrecks due to inattentive drivers, and few wrecks because of so, too. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/unsure1.gif

Great video, the music in the video was good.. Does anyone know who it is by?

I'd love to give that a go, but there isn't anywhere near where I live, not even close to that amount of traffic/chaos like that has!
The music is a song called Bandwidth by Broken Social Scene.

Man that was awsome. I am a biker and I would LOVE to do that. Seems like hella fun.

In most of that video, in the conditions that they were driving it, they couldnt get hurt. Traffic was either at a stand still or was going 20mph or slower. In a street bike you can go so freakin fast, that I would feel like I would have a higher chance riding at high speeds then riding at lower speeds with traffic. If you hit a car in those conditions, most you are going to do is fly a few feet and get back on your bike.

IMO, people who street bike around here in the Tennessee Valley are putting themselves and drivers in more danger then those dudes were in NYC.

Plus they really were not braking every rule in the book. When there is traffic like that, atleast here in TN, AL, and GA, you can drive between the traffic, and run red lights/stop signs without braking the law.
Though they did endanger pedestrians, and did run lights when traffic was rolling, but here for the law, as long as you can make it, you are a ok.

I wouldnt worry about bad names myself, as everything can get a bad name from something. If you do something that you enjoy and it getting a bad name, so what. Just do it because it is what you enjoy doing.

If you think that is dangerous and gives bikers a bad name, I dont think you wanna see what happens over in major cities in China, India and surrounding nations. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/wacko1.gif

duminyricky 02-10-2006 08:25 AM

I know what it's like to be the cyclist looking for the gaps in the pedestrians.

Those guys really were in the zone http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/wacko1.gif
