However, Weaszel, your questioning the validity of them because science has yet to explain them, holds no water. We could not explain or even understand Atoms for thousands of years - it made them no less real. Honeslty, science still has lots to explain that is real (dark matter for instance).
Correct, and until atoms were "prooved" it was lunacy to suggest such a thing.

I'm saying that same as a lot of scientific theories, it's usually incorrect until proved to be something else.

when was a kid i never really believed that ghosts exist, but in somekinda reverse thing i began to believe as i grew older.

Here in the philippines ghosts and the like (otherworldly unexplainable creatures) are highly abundant, and the people have gotten used to it. There is one province called "Capiz" here, and its widely known in our country as THE hotspot for ghosts etc.

some "creatures" that are present here that have been encountered by alot of people but have never been explained by science are:

the "manananggal" (literal translation: root word:"tanggal" [which means to remove] the remover..yeah, sounds stupid) : appareantly it is usually an old woman, usually lives alone, though not all of em. what it does is, it spreads this homemade oil around its waist during night time, which will then cause it to "tanggal" it's upper body from its lower body, and then grow wings at its back. it flies during the night, searching for victims. if it gets caught by sunlight while it is detatched from its lower half it will die.

the "kapre" (no translation): a creature with a man's body and the head of a horse. it resides on tall, old acacia trees smoking tobacco. It's usual victims are travellers.. it is supposed to confuse the travellers on their way, so they never find their way back home again.

the "duwende" (the philippine version of dwarves) comes in two variations, the white duwendes and the black duwendes. people who have claimed to see them say that they look like little people, either black or white. they take residence usually at patches of land that arent used too often (usually they stay at people's back yards) the white duwendes usually "help" the people around them indirectly (some say they just bring good luck), while the black duwende brings chaos/bad luck.

the "white lady" (your typical lady ghost) someone who died, seeking help. no intentions of hurting anyone, just needs attention.

the "black lady" (also your typical lady ghost) someone who died, usually someone who died who is either not ready or cannot accept their death. brings trouble to the people who encounter her, most of the time even killing the victim.

there are still alot more, but im too tired to type them all x_x

i never did believe any of this in the beginning, but ive had encounters with the "manananggal" (my cousin almost fell victim to one), the "duwende" (some used to live at our back yard) and the "white lady" (ive been to alot of my friends houses that have em lurking around.. and the school where i used to study had a reputation for dead people x_x)

Default Ghosts - what do you believe?
Well after watching some crazy shows lately including Most Haunted and Haunted Homes on ITV, i'm somehow inclined to say alot of the stuff broadcasted on these shows is purely set up somehow with alot of complete rubbish. With the way computers are evolving these days, it could be pretty easy to stage stuff like this. I only happened to stumble upon these programs as I was flicking through channels. However, looking at the reality side of things - do you personally believe in ghosts?

For me? In some way i'd feel inclined to say they do exist. I don't know why, but I somehow feel a presence is left where somebody dies unexpectedly or when they didn't fulfil what they wanted to do in life. I'm probably completely wrong however, because what on earth do I know?

Anyway, what do you personally believe?

I'll post my comment from an older thread about this same subject

My wife (then girlfriend) had told me stories about her house before. I really do have way too many to tell, plus I can't remember them all. But, I'll try to give the basics from the start.

When her family moved in they went for years without talking about the strange stuff they felt. Everybody in her family felt freaked out when walking up the stairs at night with the lights off, like there was somebody standing behind watching.
One night her dad just starts yelling at the ghost to go away! After this, they all talked to each other and realized they had a similar feeling. My wife/girlfriend had asked some of her friends if they felt comfortable sleeping over, most said no, they were freaked out by the stairs.
At the time they had one of their cousins (named Jasmine) living with them, she lived in the same room as my wife. One night Jasmine was talking in her sleep. My wife asked her who she was talking to, Jasmine replied that she was talking to David. When my wife asked who David was, Jasmine replied that he's who lives in the house. This, of course, freaked the hell out of my wife who started yelling at Jasmine to wake up. After she did, she had no memory of the conversation (it was in a dream, so I guess that makes sense).
At any rate, they discovered that there was actually two spirits in the house. One was David, he was the mean spirit. The one that would give you a creepy, unconfortable feeling. When you would walk up the stairs, it would feel like he was holding your ankles down. There was another spirit as well, though I can't remember his name (or how they found out). He was shy though, not around as often either.

All of this happened before I started dating her, so I knew about the stories before hand (and like I said, there's more, but this one alone is already long enough) but had never experienced anything for myself. Everybody had believed that David would only appear for "new" people, not sure how to explain what I mean. I had been living with them for probably around 6 months (I pratically was moved in anyway, spent the night 7 days a week) when Jasmine's sister moved in. This is when things started to get intersting for me.
After a couple nights of Jasmine's sister (Vicky) living in the house, she started complaining about feeling like somebody was watching her sleep. A couple nights later, I myself started getting freaked out when I'd go downstairs/upstairs at night. I didn't experience the "ankle grabbing" feeling but I definately experienced the feel of somebody standing behind me watching me go upstairs. This went on for a few nights before the "big" experience.
My wife and I were laying in bed getting ready to go to sleep. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed what looked like a small ball of light (really hard to explain) come in the door, by the foot of the bed, and sit down next to me. Not only did I see it do this I felt it sit down next to me. But, I said nothing about it. A few minutes later my wife starts yelling at it to go away! Again, I said nothing!

While I was the only person to actually see the spirit (that I know of) for sure many have felt it.
And this is why I absolutely believe in ghosts.

That one the_travis_s mentioned has been caught on camera many times, so there is definalty something to it.

As for me, I personally believe that a lot of these ghost stories are true, however I am not sure I believe they are ghosts (e.g. dead people that are stuck on earth). But I do know a lot of these ghost stories are caused by psychological conditions.

I'm open-minded about it. I do find the subject interesting and have a number of books on it.

I do watch Most Haunted occasionly, but that show is completely fake.

I only believe what I witnessed living in a haunted house for 13 years (it wasn't haunted all those years though, seems even dead people can let things go)

I've seen a ghost before. One time when I was in my living room a ghostly figure appeared before me. I first thought it wanted to talk to me, but it raised it's hand and pointed out the window. I cannot describe the excitement! Did it want to warn me of something, or did it want to be freed and could only do so by getting my help? I looked out the window, where the ghostly apparition indicated. Turns out it was just trying to get me to look outside at a sasquatch that was fighting a chupacabra across the street from my house...

No, I don't. Sorry. [no]

Hasn't the present series only just finished on Living TV? They're showing Derek Acorah's Ghost Towns from next week.

The interesting thing, to me anyway, is that AFAIK I'm still the only one that's actually "seen" a ghost there.

Which makes me wonder about it being caught on camera. If I saw it but my wife didn't, would a camera really have seen it?

You mean your wife was looking at it, at the same time as you and didn't see anything or when she looked, it had gone?

If these things are real, then they are subject to the same laws of physics that we are. So as long as there is actually something there, a camera will pick it up.
