That's amazing considering there ae no alternatives. Do you live somewhere where the City offers discounted Internet or tax breaks to ISPs r something? There is competition. Mainly AT&T and Comcast. But their offerings are so weak and so expensive, there still isn't any competition. AT&T has a lot of different bundles, but all still weak. If you are a penny pincher and don't care what you end up with, AT&T is the way to go. Craptastic has actually been increasing prices and decreasing bandwidth speeds plus some of their policies are dumb. Like they advertise internet at $40/mo but you HAVE to have basic cable which costs another $15/mo. So really just for 1.5Mb download speeds you are spending $55/mo which is what 50/50 costs from my ISP. My ISP (which also does phone and TV) is also contract free too boot. :-D. No one is trying to compete or appears that they want to even bother competing I really don't mind though because this service has to be the best or near the best in the entire nation. No contract, awesome internet speeds, awesome bundle deals, fantastic prices, all fiber, 1Gb offered, plus smart grid. Only thing that it is missing that Google is getting around to doing is offering a few Mb for free if you pay the installation fee. The ISP is owned by the city. Actually the cities power company. They laid down a smart grid with the help of a lot of subsidies that the feds were handing out and decided to get into the entertainment business with all this new fiber/bandwidth. The company is separate from city funds and has to operate at a profit. |
