Yeah, that story (or the NYT one it mentioned) doesn't quote any reliable, identifiable, sources; where as the one I posted quotes Google's big cheese. Hardly telling of any future plans, like releasing it before the end of the year. ![]() Yes of course, Google have a lot of reasons for wanting to have a maps app on the most popular mobile ecosystem out there but my bet is that Apple will block it for as long as they can. |

Let me throw this iron in the fire:
http://allthingsd.com/20120926/apple...ed-directions/ It looks like Apple and Google could not come to an agreement regarding turn-by-turn navigation. Here is a pretty clear op-ed on the matter: http://daringfireball.net/2012/09/ti...les_map_switch |

I don't know many hardcore Apple people, but I held the iPhone 5 today and she was upset she couldn't sync it with her 2008 Mac and needed Snow Leopard, which Apple don't stock any more. Don't worry, I'm still confused. Upgraded my iPhone 3GS to OS6 but now my iPhone 3GS doesn't work with my iTunes 10.6 so I download iTunes 10.7 but that doesn't work with my operating system OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) so I have to upgrade to OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) but can't upgrade over iTunes, need the actual disc, so I go to the Apple Store and they don't sell it anymore, have to order it from this place called the "Internet". Balls in a blender! |

Well, is Bing on iOS?
Maybe Bing is the only better alternative? I like a lot of features about Bing maps (better and more current imagine data vs google around my parts, faster on desktop), and it seems to be growing very fast in terms of data. Not sure how it would compare to the stock Maps on iOS6, but it might be a nice alternative? Anyone try it out? |

What's the issue exactly? I don't understand, but we have a few people at work on older versions of OSX that won't swap for whatever reason and it might be an issue when we all upgrade to the iPhone 5 in a couple of months. |

She just said she cannot sync. According to above, it's the fact you need a version of iTunes leopard doesn't support. Sneaky. It is entirely unreasonable to expect any company to continue long term support for a platform past a certain date and Leopard was released in 2007. The development costs for legacy development become intangible at a certain point. |

You say sneaky, but how many games support windows XP these days? Apple is just trying to bully people into paying even more money for something likely uneeded, just as Microsoft were when forcing people to upgrade to Vista to play Halo [which ever version it was]. |

Since when is iTunes anything like a game? Does iTunes not support XP anymore? Nope, it does. Try to think about thinks a bit more, I shouldn't have to explain that was my point, rather than me saying windows is like a game. Here are your choices: 1) Update the operating system to support a new version of iTunes - not feasible as it isn't even in production anymore. 2) Create a version of iTunes for each operating system - not feasible as it's far too much resource allocation to have two development forks for legacy and active operating systems. 3) Agree that there is a point where new applications will not have to be supported by older operating systems. Basically, what you're suggesting is the internet equivalent of producing a version of this website that works in Netscape Navigator. Before you go off on some other rant based on lack of understanding what I am saying, let me make it perfectly clear that I am not passing judgement on whether or not I think this is acceptable by Apple, I'm just explaining the process. |

Software support is software support. A company has a roadmap and at some point it becomes unviable to continue providing support. The fact is, it's typical Apple modus operandi; they're bullying OSX users into either forcing an upgrade (at cost), or to buy a new Mac. I'd hardly call this 2.5GHz C2D, 4GB DDR2 obsolete hardware, either, so I'm in the middle of running Time Machine and then updating the OS. Is the difference between Leopard and Snow Leopard that much of a difference? Serious question, that. |
