All the predictions of Apple's downfall after Jobs death start to make sense...

For such a high priced device, it seems that they went for the cheapest solutions. Greedy.

But I think I would still prefer a scratched phone over one that breaks so easily, like the iPhone4s.

Interesting to know what kind of product testing they do at Apple. Obviously the software is well ironed out, but the hardware on a few occasions is deficient in durability at least. Maybe they're just no that bothered.

Right, but it's still dumb to put a product out that because of a fault, people may be put off buying it. Even if money was saved in the process or making it.

oh man i never said it wasnt dumb
tbh i think the whole profit first paradigm is more than dumb its fecking insane
if apple could release the same phone every year with a different number on it and people still bought it, then they would do that
profit over progress is as dumb as a bag of spanners

It's not dumb actually. As long as people are willing to buy it, Apple couldn't be any happier. Business 101 my friend.

Normally I say Apple makes a great product, the iPhone is an excellent device, but I just hate them as a company.

Now I'm thinking the iPhone isn't that great of a product. One of its big selling points is its looks (hipsters...). Nobody wants a 1 week old phone that looks worse than my 2-3 year old HTC Evo.

Yeah I remember I used to "hate" a few companies/corporations back in the good old days, Apple was one of them by the way. But now... I don't even want to know about their business practices, lies, over-hyped products etc. I buy what I like and I gotta say it feels good not having to worry about all this bullshit surrounding certain brands. IMHO, of course.

I like a phone with a bit of scuff damage on it. As long as it doesn't effect the functionality I don't care.

Hipsters will pay extra to have their jeans sand blasted and ripped but don't like a scratch on their phone...

Yeah, the profit margins seem to be pretty insane for a lot of those in the mobile business. Granted, not so hot for others.
But yea, one would think that a company that has a ~25% profit margin, devices would be a lot more solid then they are. You'd think they could make a flawless device. Paint that doesn't chip, a camera that doesn't show purple, a better maps system with an army of people working and updating it.

But just goes to show that no device is perfect, no company is perfect, and when a company is public the shareholder comes first.

I just can't stand the GUI. Every time I use a friends iPhone the UI experience is just so weak.
