So far it appears to be a very sub-par maps application. Apple's got a way to go before even closely catching up to Google Maps.

With Apple's magical mapping technology, we'll help you discover new and exciting places you never knew were around the corner!*

(* Places may or may not be located where they are displayed as being)

The maps app seems OK, the 3D thing is neat looking. Google maps has some messed up data too, I'm not saying that to defend Apple so much, but in my area... whoa Google.

No map service will ever be perfect. Google maps has a lot of inaccurate address listings for businesses in my city. I've lost count of how many times I've arrived at a store's location listed on Google Maps only to discover it closed months ago.

I'm glad Google will finally have some competition. In a few years, I'm sure Apple will have a lot to offer with their Maps.app.

Yeah, those are some funny looking cars. I had a chance to drive behind one for a couple of miles one time.

Bing maps. From what I have used it seems like a very solid, and very fast map system. It even has a much larger library of HD imagines for my area.
With all this negative press about iOS Maps, I wouldn't be surprised if even Bing Maps is a better service atm.

Sucks for apple users. Such a vital service taking a step backwards is a poor decision.

I'm sure they will fix it soon enough. Google had LOADS of errors when it first came out. Can you imagine how difficult it is to test such an application globally? I doubt there is even a test oracle in existence that could do it justice.

I'm sure that it will be fixed in time but it's a maps application after all and it's not like it's just going to take them a few weeks.

It will be month or years until it's up to Google Maps quality.

Presuming it's just a stored co-ordinate issue then each instance can be fixed within an hour of it being reported.

Things like thinking an area with airfield in the title is actually an airport are also easy fixes.

Depending on their Content Delivery Network (CDN), it might actually take longer to roll out the changes globally than to put them in place.

I was also talking about the many areas where the photos are of low quality or have cloud cover, it's not going to get done in a jiffy.

Ah, well to be fair there are loads of areas on Google maps still that have those problems. It's getting better but I guess they can only afford to buy satellite imagery so often and if you live in a naturally cloudy area it could be a problem for years.

That's exactly my point. Google have been refining maps for 7 years, I doubt that Apple will fix them up in weeks.

Anyway, no point arguing about this, we can start counting the days...

On that note.....

Apple is redefining what it means to have a cloud based map service.
