Default Goophone, "pirate"manufacturer of phones, patents iPhone 5 design
Goophone, manufacturer known to make clones of popular phones like HTC One S, Galaxy S3 and iPhone 4, has patented the design of their new Goophone I5 - exact replica of the leaked iPhone 5 phones - in China.

Practicly what this means, is that they could sue Apple and potentially prevent them from selling any iPhone 5's in China, and be even more likely succesfull at it than Apple has been, since their patent is specificly to this particular design, not "rectangle with rounded corners" like Apples

Hope they win. Would be great if Apple got ripped a new one because that's all they seem to do.

I'm going to be sitting on the sidelines with a bag of popcorn watching the launch of the iPhone5. With this and Samsung ready to sue Apple if the iPhone5 has LTE sounds like it could be an interesting launch.

Apple is one of the wealthiest companies in the world. Nothing will come of this except "Goo phone" ceasing to exist as a company.

Your talking about china here, any company in China will be protected by chinese law. As an outside company you will not stand a chance.
Just do a quick search on how many big comapnies (and Apple) just payed alot of money so they can sell there.

Edit: the name "Ipad" is a perfect example.

Apple manufactures everything in China, so the country has way more to lose by Apple taking their business elsewhere than to allow a piss-ant company that no body has heard of and grant them a patent for a new iPhone design.

Who else is willing to set up a factory for building iPads and iPhone at a simialr price? I think Apple might possibly loose out there.

Lose out there as in pay the chinese company off. Chump-change for apple basically.

Well yes, I think there'd be some kind of financial agreement there.

Who knows, maybe Samsung will buy Goophone out quickly just for the kicks of giving Apple a bite of their own apple

More and more Apple iDevices are being made in Brazil these days (by Foxcom). Generally China has sided with it's own companies in cases like this (there are a lot of examples, like BMW suing a Chinese car company for making X5 rip offs). But this sounds too silly even for the Chinese courts to side with Goophone.

Not to mention Apple could literally buy Foxconn.

How so? Apples own patents aren't even detailed/specific like this is, and still US courts are siding with them

Yep, and most Chinese still but BMWs. Apple won't be hurt that much, but the litigation will probably lead them to be banned from advertising the iPhone 5.

Grow up you freaks - how is this remotely a good thing for Chinese consumers?

How are Apple's anti-competitive practices good for anyone anywhere?
