Jiroemon Kimura, of Japan, has become the last man on planet Earth to have been born in the 1800's

Literally the last man. However, there are 21 women born before New Year's Day, who are still with us, most of them living in the United States or Japan, with others in Europe and Canada.

But whereas the females born within the reign of Victoria powerfully number him, Mr Kimura, born on April nineteen, 1897, has one record the ladies cannot match - not simply however, anyway. At 116, the ''supercentenarian'' is the oldest human in the world.
