I know it's April 1st, and I must admit I thought I was being pranked... Sad thing was she was deadly serious. A lady walks in with a laptop under her arm.....
Me: Can I help you? Lady: Yeah, I need you to fix my laptop. Me: OK, what seems to be the problem? Lady: It won't go online, the wireless won't connect to our router. Me: OK, lets just check it out. *Laptop picks up and connects to our workshop wireless fine* Hmm, it seems fine. Have you made sure your router is working? Lady: Yes, we tried my sisters laptop too and that wouldn't connect either. Me: So neither yours or your sisters will connect? Lady: Yes, and it works fine at her house so it must be my laptop. Me: No, I'd say more likely your router is either faulty or needs resetting. Lady: No, it's the laptop, it won't talk to the router. Me: But neither will your sisters? Lady: *lets out a deep sigh* Yes, I said that. Are you a little bit slow dear? Me: Pardon? Lady: Look are you going to fix my laptop or not? Me: As far as I can see there's nothing wrong with it.... Lady: OH FOR.... *looks ready to start shouting but takes a deep breath* Fine, Fine. I'll take it to somone who knows what they're doing! She stomped off and about 2 minutes later the director came up from the shop with a huge grin on his face. Director: What did you say to her? Me: *I go over the discussion* Director: Oh right, as she was leaving she told me "I'm all for equal opportunity but REALLY, should you be employing somone with learning difficulties as a technician?" Me: *Sigh & Facepalm* Director: *laughing* Hope you realise you're in for a good month of **** for this! |

I had a good chuckle on that.. I'd probably have taken a slightly different approach mind you..
When she asked if I were a bit slow, I'd have said no not at all .. and gone into trying to explain why it's likely not a problem with her laptop. That is ofcourse if she even gave the oportunity .. hard to say as she seemed rather rude from your account. |

Oh the joy of dealing with the general public.
As George Carlin once said "Think how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are stupider than that!" Sadly yes, thanks to our proximity to several "lovely" council estates we get some people in who could loose a battle of wits with a potted plant and who may have only recently learnt to walk upright. Many of these people throw their children "Congrats on your first ASBO" parties. |

I think I'm still getting over my old retail jobs from like 3 years ago lol
I know this because I started to get really pissed off while I was reading your story. Any piece of trash can just stroll in and drive you up a wall... www.retailsucks.com |
