Default Are they allowed to do this?
I worked for Edinburgh Airport over the summer and left on Nov 9th, got paid end of November what I thought was my last wage so all was cool, they had got my notice as I had phoned on the 7th to make sure etc etc so I thought it was all good.

Then a week or so ago I got another wage slip in for a full months wages, I thought it was wrong, most I could have been due was MAYBE a shift allowance for Nov but I doubted it, but sure enough the money had been paid into my bank.

Yesterday I cheked my bank account online though, and the money had been taken out?!

My question is basicly are they allowed (The bank/The Airport) to just take money out of my account?! I accept I wasn't due the money as I had left, but it was the aiports' mistake, surely they should need my permission to take money out of my bank account?

Or are they allowed to do that? I have no idea

They probably didn't take the money from your bank but asked their bank to cancel the transfer, hence they didn't take it from your bank.

Hmm, maybe, just shows up as 'Inter branch transfer' whatever that means.

Not sure what the situation is in the UK, but in Finland the bank can take back a transfer to "correct a mistake" without asking you anything. It has to be a clear reversal of a recent transfer to the account for exactly same amount, but beyond that whatever constitutes a "mistake" that can be corrected like this is bit of a gray area. I guess whatever the bank person doing the reversal thinks is a mistake that is being corrected.

If the airport told the bank that this transfer to you was made in error, it might be that in the interest of saving manual labor at the bank, they just use the "correct a mistake" clause and worry about it if/when the account owner complains. It's all about efficiency...

Of course things get more hairy if that would take the balance to negative (not sure if they can do that unannounced)

But in any case, if you have no case to present why that money would actually belong to you besides "ha ha, they made a mistake and paid me full month, they fouled up, my gain", I doubt you have much of a leg to stand on to complain about...

Hmm if the payment was pending they could have canceled it and it would have still shown online your bank statement. If that's the case, the transaction or deposit was never final.

Ive had random money deposited into my account before.

as nice as it was.

I was wise enough to just leave it alone and after a few days the money was taken back out of my account.

was about 2 grand a lot of money to an 18 yo back then

FYI, in the US we have similar bullshit.

If a bank errors in your favor they have up to one FULL year to correct it. This means they can grab the erroneous funds at any time.

However, it the bank screws up in THEIR favor, you only have 60 -90 days (depending on something that is unclear to me) to file a formal complaint and hope for the money back.
