If you drive into the mountains on the east side of SLC, you'll have seen the best they have to offer. Not WEST, that's mining.

I was stationed at Travis and lived in both Vacaville and Fairfield.
Fairfield today 100,000+, and Vacaville is 90,000+. The Fairfield city limit is now out at I-680, I-80 interchange. If you were here in the 70s, I-680 started in Vallejo. That high way is now I-780 to Benicia. Today I-680 start at highway 12, 680, & 80 interchange and go to San Jose . Highway 12 to Napa, is now adding 2 more lanes to be a 4 lanes highway into Napa. When it is completed, they are suppose to build a interchange that will connect all 3 highway together. In your days here 880 was the Sac by pass for I-80, today 880 starts at I-80 SF/Oakland Bay Bridge interchange and goes to San Jose.

Yeah, congrats MrFun!

Welcome to our whacky state. I live up there for 5 years, and I'm glad I'm not there any more. Not because you're moving there, but because there's too many gays there.

I actually liked that area. When I lived in Davis it was 80, to the 101, to 680 to 880... everything down there is an 80... 280, 580, 680, 880... it's rather confusing.

When all you're used to hearing is "Go to the flashing signal and turn", I guess it would be confusing.

I just want to get to my destination, so I won't be doing much sight seeing along the way. I may have time to check an interesting place or two while in Salt Lake City overnight.
Which is why I said go to Wendover, cheap buffets and a little gambling, then a good night's rest. Much better than SLC.

ACK!

SLC seems to have little in the way of brick houses. Cellars, they have, but wood houses from what I saw. Seemed odd.

When I was there, there were C-5, C-141, KC 135 and a SAC command. C-141 no longer in service. That was a good aircraft.
I remember the KC-135 engine runs, especially at night. Tremendously loud. A C-5 almost landed on me one foggy night. Max of 20 feet over me.

Congrats. If you're in Salt Lake City and a pretty girl comes up to you and starts chatting, don't worry, they're not hitting on you. They're just trying to convert you. (no silly, to be a Mormon)
I found that one out the hard way.
Yeah, you don't say. Out here in eastern Iowa somewhere at a convenience store/gas station, two Mormon guys were filling up their car while I filled mine up on the other side.

One of them walked around and came up to me, and started babbling self-righteous nonsense. So then I said, "As a gay man, I would not feel welcomed in the Mormon community." He said something like that gays are welcome if they repent, and abstain from homosexual behavior. Then I said, "Have a nice day."

Nah - this Mormon seemed more intelligent.

I don't really mind the Mormons who go around proselytizing. They're always very polite and respectful.

I don't think talking to me in a condescending tone is being respectful toward me.

I expect that condescending tone was mostly perceived. If they took a condescending tone they'd never get any converts. I understand how it might seem condescending when someone talks about your lifestyle like that, and in a way it is, but they almost certainly meant no disrespect.

Isn't he old enough to be your dad?

Just an observation.
That's just wrong on more than one level.
