And 59 percent of them say there’s no point, since nothing ever gets done and politicians continue to make empty promises, according to the poll.

So it turns out not every American is an idiot.

Yeah. The loss of the time needed to vote every couple years would be a huge blow to freedom.

If you're too lazy to go out and vote, do you suppose you'd also be too lazy to educate yourself about the choices? The only reason to force nonvoters to vote is because you don't like the outcomes of elections. We all agree, voting is quite easy and convenient, particularly with absentee ballots. If you aren't engaged enough to do something so simple, why would your opinion be worth anything anyways? Think about it.

The fact of the matter is that democrats rely significantly on the demographic of "people who can be persuaded to hop on a bus and vote for whomever someone tells them to" in order to win elections. If we passed mandatory voting laws, they wouldn't have to pay for the buses.

The ignorant already do vote. This is just the disinterested not voting.
The disinterested are probably even more ignorant. 5% of Americans or so don't know who Mitt Romney is right now. If you're that disinterested, we don't want your opinion.

It isn't like I want your opinion, but you'll provide it anyway http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/tongue.gif.

Compulsory voting works for Democrats because ignorant and uninformed people will vote Democrat.

QFT. As much as Guynemer identifies with their "**** the system, pols lie to me" attitude, their views are everything he professes to hate about America. They're the sort of people that will say "Oh, hmm, we should have more trains, I like trains, let's vote for Obama's train thing" and then turn around and say "now wait a minute, don't raise my taxes!" and fail to see the connection.

If these people are simply voting for whomever someone tells them to then Republicans would have started renting buses a long time ago.

Democrats have always been better at exploiting the decency of the poor for political purposes. Republicans go the opposite route, exploiting middle class fears to maintain power. It's been that way since the Whigs and the Irish.

This group already votes, and votes Republican.

Realistically speaking, do you really want the ignorant and disinterested voting in the first place? Is the country better off with people who don't care enough to vote of their own volition exercising the franchise?
Maybe authorities would take an interest in education.

That must be exactly why the worst educated states in America are red states. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/welldone.gif

I'm a non-voter. I really just don't care anymore. It's just not going to change things. Call me stupid if you want, but I think we are the smart ones.
