How is the balance between boys and girls maintained?

Are there any intelligent atheists?

Lafclaria 12-17-2011 07:23 PM

Evidently, you don't. Which doesn't suprise me. I don't intend to explain it to you.

There isn't one. More boys are born than girls. Either God likes boys more or there is some evolutionary advantage to giving birth to boys slightly more often.
Are you using stats that involve China? Because everyone knows what happens to baby girls there.

Evolution is far to simple of an answer. So is probability (actually it's beyond stupid).

Evolution is the answer.

If there are an excess of boys over girls, then having girls becomes advantagous. If there is an excess of girls over boys, then the opposite is true and having boys becomes advantagous. Equilibrium is maintained.

sonsayx 12-17-2011 08:23 PM

That doesn't explain how we have such continuous and uniform balance in nature.

29clepayJainync 12-17-2011 08:33 PM

No, he doesn't, because he doesn't understand probability.

tinamasak 12-17-2011 08:55 PM

Okay, if we assumed for a second that there's a 50/50 chance of having a boy or a girl, it looks like in a population with 1000 children the chances that at least 55% of them would be boys are .069587% so I really don't understand why we don't see any large human populations that are mostly boys or mostly girls!!!!11!!1!

onlyfun_biziness 12-17-2011 09:01 PM

Girls live longer, which presumably balances that out somewhat.

Well yeah. I haven't checked your math but there are no countries with that many boys.

There isn't....

Just talking about births here.
Why birth, and not say reproductive age, which would be more relavent for evolutionary considerations, as I understand it.

In a related question, why do they have so many people in India and China, but not in Canada??? If that doesn't prove god being responsible then I don't know.
Most Canadians are gay because they hate God.

I don't think there's a difference, but we shouldn't talk about both at the same time. I'll say that God also determines what the ratio between boys and girls of reproductive age will be.

Yeah, god probably doesn't like mountains.

gibbler, when will all the boys be born on one continent and all the girls on another?
Probably never. Sperm goes in, boys and girls come out. Never a miscommunication. You can't explain that.

Wrong answer. If you really believe what you said you wouldn't be shocked if that happened with the next generation, because it WILL happen.
