Default Recommend Provost a New Car...
Oh yeah, just to clarify, I'd rather get something nearly new second hand rather than something brand new - that is just throwing money away.

Hell, even I owned a Rover 3500! I bet you never even owned a Rover or an Austin. Even a Land Rover would be OK. Feel your English roots, damn you, I bet you don't even remember BMC Much less British Leyland!

My Rover SD1 wasn't half bad though Lucas Electric, the Prince of Darkness, needs to burn in hell. **** YOU Lucas Electric.

You'd think we'd be able to engineer a good car given our national traits...we're generally very good engineers. It's strange.

But no, I want something that is actually going to work!

Anything German sound OK. Do watch your parts though... we produce gearboxes for some VW models over here, and while they're excellent gearboxes, I don't theink they're up to par with the ones they make over there.

Hondas used to be good as well.

Why hasn't anyone asked if you crashed the old one yet?
The old one is still in use and sat in the garage. For once, I have managed to keep it as long as I intended, without me having to get shut of it through terrible unreliability (Peugeot 106) or being written off in a rear end shunt through no fault of my own (my previous car)

A man has a love-hate relationship with his Rover. He loves and yet he hate it. Rover is the paradox of cars.

I've never even heard of an SD1? Is this car older than me or something?
And you call yourself an Englishmen?

It was sold in the USA and Canada as a Rover 3500 and in the EU as a Rover SD1. It had a four speed manual transmission (later upgraded to a Honda built five speed) and a 3.5 liter, all aluminum, Rover V-8 (nee Buick V-8 which is who owned the engine prior to 1969 though BL liked that it had previously been a Buick engine as David Dunbar Buick had originally been from Glasgow, Scotland).

What do you actually want from a car? I could recommend loads, but how about specifying the qualities you want?

For £20K I'd be looking at the Volvo V50, Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Superb estate, Toyota Avensis and Mazda 6.

I have a Nissan currently but hate their most recent designs. And don't get me started on names. Note? Juke? I've never heard of a Leaf but it fits the pattern. And WTF is a Qashqai anyway?

We make a ton of racing cars, for all over the world.

btw - I love my Vauxhall Astra hot-hatch. The Mk 5 Astra was one of the most successful cars sold in Britain last decade, and there must be some reason why the Old Bill liked them.

Volvo XC60. Apparently good to drive, very comfortable, good-looking and very low depreciation.

If you really want to moisten gussets, you can just afford an Alfa-Romeo Turismo. It will break, but it's lovely.
