Default Truck Questions
Hey guys, got a 2007 Ford F-150 STX Reg cab, Reg bed 4.2L v6 Truck and Id like to spice it up a bit. Not going to to race it or anything, just asthetic things like sound/image that im looking to improve.

Exhaust-
Id like to put some sort of dual exhaust on it,mabye cut out muffler completely and go with catback to glasspack tips, or mabye a flowmaster 44 SIDO to dual pipes? I want something that gives that good low rumble and aggressive sound, but not the full on ricer sound or too loud, what do you think?

Air Intake-
Any options for new air intake?

Tonnaeu Cover-
Id like a hard cover that matches my paint (metallic Graphite) any recommendations?

Stereo-
Its a reg cab, has lots of space behind front seat, however dog normally needs some of that area for trips. I wouldnt mind a small 10" sub, but nothing too big or crazy. Im not looking to Boom, just clean, crisp sound for rock/some hip hop etc. Any recommendations for head unit, speakers, sub etc?

Thanks for any advice

First thing would be to check on the legality of mod's in your state for the vehicle, second would be to check with the insurance company.
As you're in Texas, they shouldn't be too much problem for minor mod's, I expect.

Third, have a good think about the budget and what you actually want out of the vehicle - IMO, it's daft to go for a noisier car and improve the sound system.
That said, you should be able to find companies offering cat' back systems easily enough and they should also give a small improvement in mileage - even better if you can stretch to some headers focused towards torque. A well designed cold air intake and free flowing air filter may also give a small improvemnent.

There should be a number of F150 clubs and/or sites around and you may even find some baragins there - certainly some sound advice.

Forgot, what sterea head unit, amp's (if used) and speakers are in there at the moment - some of the guys more interested in music/sound should be able to give some sound advice.

Right now the truck is completely stock and the engine/exhaust is completely quiet. Im not looking for "loudness" just some noise comming from the engine. thats all. would a SISO muffler with a straight exhuast(rathe than the angled stock exhaust, work better for me?

Stereo is completely stock, dont know the specs, doesnt sound bad at all, just needs a little more umph with the bass tbh.

My advice? Get on an F-150 forum and ask them. THEY focus on the ford trucks. We don't.

Any other advice I have you probably won't want to hear, it won't be in your budget.

F150s are sold here but rare, not my sort of vehicle, anyway.
As said, check out the F150 forums - personally, I'd be looking at increasing fuel economy as a priority as prices are only going to rise.

Well, this is more of the hobby/fun vehicle, my wifes car is a kia fuel saver, and work pays for my work vehicle/gas. so the f150 is only for "out on the town" to the beach etc. But yeah most of the options ive looked at actually do save gas mileage anyway .

I found a site called fordtruckenthuiasts. Found some sound advice, based on thier recomendations I found a garage and great price for some work to be done. Ill let you know later how it all went.

And yeah, it would be sweet to have the kind of budget that would allow for whole new engine/drivetrain etc, but I would just get a whole new car if it came to that...which leads right back to not having that kind of budget

NOTE! I have little interest or experience in ICE - there are some very knowledgeable guys here, though, so they can clear up my mistakes.

Had a quick look and seems one of the first things is to upgrade the POS speakers.
Seems like they're 6 1/2", 16cm, in front with a possible separate tweeter. Pioneer and some other brands have replacements, just as they do for the rear speakers, if fitted.

I don't listen to loud thump-thump "music" but for a budget setup (about US$200ish) it should have a considerable improvement all round, including the bottom end. The head unit should be sufficient to power them, at least initially

Some speaker companies offer upgrade kits for different vehicles and, with the popularity of F150s, I expect there's a fair range of options from budget to multi' thousand dollar setups.
