My old Sony Ericsson is dying on me, so i´ve been thinking about jumping into the smartphone market.
But tbh im totally clueless about what´s good, etc, etc. I think i´d like a Android phone (i loath Apple) and tbh can´t really see myself buying any apps (as i barely ever use my phone at all) Anyways, today i looked at the Motorola Defy a bit and rather liked it, any suggestions on what to get ? |

I would suggest going with HTC made phones if you want android. And I don't hear to many complaints about the Motorola Droids. There's also Google's own phone, the Nexus S which is pretty descent and comes with Android 2.3.
I have a Samsung Epic, but I wouldn't recommend Samsung. Their update support is probably the worst of all the makers. Had my phone for 5 months now and still waiting for the Android 2.2 update like every other Galaxy S owner. Not a good sign when they can't even keep their current flagship phone line up to date. I also had to return 3 Epics just to get one that works properly. Samsung seems to have some build quality issues with a lot of their phones. |

The main advantage the iPhone has for me are the apps (there are far more available) and the higher res screen (meaning I can fit more of a web page on the screen without having to zoom in and scroll around).
But if you are set on getting an Android, the best available ATM are probably: HTC Desire - If you want a cheaper phone and don't like a 4.3inch screen HTC Desire HD - Has a bigger 4.3inch screen HTC Desire Z - If you want a keyboard and a touch screen The Samsung Galaxy is good too and has a 4.3inch screen, but everyone I know with one complains about battery life. |

Since your in Germany, I assume that T-Mobile is good?
If so, T-Mobile G2, no doubt about it. Though, TBH, I not even sure if that is available outside of the US... |

Golem, look at the N8.
The interface is nowhere near as slick as a high-end Android device or an iPhone, but it might be right up your alley given your list of priorities. It comes with arguably the best navigation in the market, and you don't need a data plan for it. It has perhaps the best camera on the market. It can play back 720p movies of almost any format and output them in 720p over HDMI. Battery life is very good. Plus it's probably very inexpensive in Germany. Disclosure: I have one. ![]() Read Engadget's review of the device. They deliver a comprehensive and fair review of the phone but give it a curiously low score for some reason. |

It's worth waiting until march, then get the LG Optimus X2.
First dual core phone with tegra 2 from nvidia, HDMI out, 1080p video recording, 8mp camera with flash and probably Andriod 2.3 If you have to choose now, then get one of these. Desire HD Nexus S Galaxy S I wouldn't consider droid x as the GPU is a little weak. Desire HD has a 4.3" SLCD screen a 8MP camera with flash, Nexus S and Galaxy S both have 4" Super Amoled screens which have better contrast, brightness, colour and viewing angles with 5MP cameras. Nexus S screen is slightly Curved, both Galaxy S and Nexus S have a slightly faster GPU than the Desire HD. Also worth adding for some reason the Nexus S does not do 720p recording while the Galaxy S does but the Nexus S has a flash. Oh and the Desire HD has a weak battery ![]() Confused yet? |

As much as I would like to see another android based phone sold.... are you sure you really need a smartphone? Here in the states we have to pay extra per month to have a data package with any smartphone. So if you are hardly going to use any of features a smartphone offers with a decreased battery life when compared to a standard, why pay more for that?
All of that aside, I have had a Droid 1 (Milestone) for over a year now and it has been a solid phone, a little slow now, but I have it OC'd to 1.25Ghz. I really like having a physical slide out keyboard, if a keyboard is important then I would recommend the Milestone 2 if you like the size of it. It offers a faster CPU over the first one, IIRC it is 1Ghz stock. |
