Default Where should I apply to grad school (MS in CS) with this profile?
So I've come to CFC asking for help, knowing that quite a few here have a good idea of what's going on in the academic scene.
Really?

Diligence is something you are clearly lacking.

I'd say you might be able to get into Temple. Might.

Yes.

"Why did you apply here?"
"Because I thought I might get in!"

Is not a good enough reason.

Strange. There are some Indian kids at my high school who insist India has the best education system on the planet. Heaven knows why they're attending TJ, I guess.

There are some smart Indians that come out of the Indian educational system, but not that many. China puts out a lot more brilliant people than India does.
Japan tops both of them by a wide margin. The USA still tops Japan.

The Indian system results in a huge waste of effort.

My former roommate, who was at a so so university (Mississippi or something) spoke of studying for 16 hours a day in highschool/college time frame.

He didn't appear to have known more at that level than I, who went to an atrocious highschool. He did have the disadvantage of not having any computer use in college (or before).

Still, I can't see any purpose for the studying that he did (same as what I hear from a lot of eastern countries though).

I believe that he had a Masters from one of the best Indian universities and had top scores as well.

Was a bright guy though, definitely better than many of the other guys going to third tier universities.

Meh. I regularly cross-post threads on both forums. Sometimes these little things slip through.
So, not only an inattention to detail (in CS ffs! ), but a lax attitude to mistakes as well...

Why don't you become a doctor instead: you have atrocious handwriting and you're Indian - talk about win/win!

It is done.

Just received an offer of admission from Georgia Tech to their Master's in Computer Science program, Fall '11.
Congrats. My younger daughter is probably headed to engineering (real engineering not computer engineering ). I was amazed to discover that GT is ranked 3rd in the country.
