Default Conan O'Brian Not Happy With NBC Delaying Tonight Show Startup to 12 Midnight.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conan_o%27brian

The Tonight Show host Conan O'Brian is saying no to NBC's plans to delay the startup of the popular late-night talk show to 12:05.

The network wants to move Jay Leno's prime-time 30-minute show to 11:35 and push back O'Brian's time slot to start 30 minutes later.

NBC says that the change would take place on February 12 at the start of the Winter Olympics games. O'Brian says that the move would forever alter the integrity of the Tonight Show, which for many, many, many years, has always started at 11:30 or 11:35.

NBC has crap on anyway.

Move Leno to 11:00 and bump the "news" to 10:30.

As long as Leno is out of the mainstream prime-time, his ratings will go back up. And a 30 minute slot is easier to fill than an hour.

Honestly, I don't think it's fair for Leno to hog that time slot, especially after he did the Tonight Show for so many years since the early '90s!

NBC now stands to LOSE a gifted talented star if they start switching that around. What a shame!!

If he's so gifted then why does he get beaten in every time slot? Craig Ferguson used to beat him. Letterman beats him now. He's the comic everyone says they like - but don't watch. Maybe we like the idea of him better than the reality.

Sad as it is, ratings wise, NBC would have been better off extending Jay Leno for another 5 years, and telling Conan to hit the pavement.

Jay didn't want to stay at the Tonight Show, not after NBC offered him the "better" deal ($$$). He wouldn't have moved to 10PM unless that's what he thought would work best for him.

Bone heads.

They've got a bunch of guys older than me "entertaining" the rest of the country before bedtime.

Network TV . So 20th century.

Give me Jon Stewart and Charlie Rose any day (night).

The deal was that Conan would take over the 11:35 time slot with the Tinight Show. He hasn't even been there a year yet, and NBC already wants to bump him to start 1/2 an hour later! Don't you think that is rather unfair?

The main problem I have had with Late Night in general is that it just stopped being funny.

Being on EVERY NIGHT, and for AN HOUR, it gets hard to come up with monologues and sketches for every episode. Then you have the mind numbing interviews that are nothing more than promotions for this book, that movie, or the other TV show.

Cut them down to 30 minutes and you have something like the Daily Show that hits, scores, and runs away before you stop laughing.

NBC should have learned from SNL that you can take the funniest people on the planet and make them as entertaining as the DMV when you force 30 seconds of funny into a 5 minute sketch. You just can't take that much air to fill up an hour of late night 5 nights a week.

Forget fair - its stupid. They should have picked one or the other. Apparently they are picking Jay now.

It was on the news just now, that NBC did not specify or guarrantee that O'Brian would stay in the 11:35pm spot.

Also, now, they would have to renegociate with Leno to see if HE wants to move his show to 11:35pm.

What, Leno gets to choose which spot he wants, but not O)'Brian? That isn't fair either!

Now Jay Leno is also fighting back, saying that both himself AND Conan are being treated very unfairly, so now, the network could stand to lose BOTH of them!

Well, Leno DID leave the show of his own choosing.

He was supposed to have retired from TV talk shows, but found himself not being able to just walk away. The money and spotlight, I would imagine.

Friday night will be Conan's last appearance on the Tonight Show. His guests will be Will Ferrell & Tom Hanks.

Leno will return after the Winter Olympics.

I think that is bullcrap that they're doing this because Leno had officially retired from doing the show!!

Look how much money it is costing them to let Conan walk and to pay the ones who worked with him on the show, when all they had to do was try to work something out with him and save all that money! I think they just screwed themselves out of a lot of money.

They're paying Conan 32 millions dollars to start a new show on Fox next Fall. Essentially.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/22/bu...2conan.html?hp

Personally, I think they're all pale imitations of Carson. Hell - it pains me to mention them in the same sentence. Ferguson is the only one who measures up.

But Carson, as you know, is no longer with us.

They should have asked the one who is on after Conan. Give HIM a shot at the spotlight.

I just feel that since Leno deicided to leave the show in the first place, then why on earth are they babying him to come back? He left on his own, they didn't force him out, so he should not have been so quickly offered the slot back.

Oh, they're gonna cater to him and put HIM on at 11:35, but they just WOULDN'T give it to Conan?! Tell me where that is fair.
