Solar Eclipse 2010
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...uTongariki.JPG
The moai are ready July 11, 2010 Virtually all of the path of totality falls over water - the southern Pacific Ocean. It does pass within 15 miles of Tahiti, so cruise ship business will be great. In all the vast Pacific Ocean, the path makes one direct hit with tiny Rapa Nui (Easter Island), not much bigger than Staten Island. Totality on the island will last 4 min 45 sec. Imagine how cool and creepy it would be to experience it with those sentinels. NASA Eclipse website |
Sigh... can't make this one... but I'll be in Tennessee on August 21, 2017.

So, we get ours 7 years from now? Not fair! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/frown.png

uh oh - prepare for disappointment.
You'll have to wait until 2024 for a total eclipse in NY State (full in Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester though). http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEmap/S...ENorAm2001.gif We get a dawn total eclipse in NYC in 2079. http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEmap/S...ENorAm2051.gif Though... there is an "annular" over Las Vegas in 2012 - not that long from now (in an Annular Eclipse, the moon doesn't completely cover sun so no totality) http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEmap/S...ENorAm2001.gif |
I think Omega means in the continental US.
Head down to Nashville on Aug 21, 2017. Everyone should see a total solar eclipse once in their lives. |
^True that.
You can plan all you want but you better be flexible. You don't want to travel all the way there and find out it will likely rain. Best is if you choose somewhere with less of a chance of a washout. The best viewing may may well be the dry plains of Wyoming or Nebraska. If there are storms they are usually local and brief. 2017: http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEgoogl...21Tgoogle.html 2024: http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEgoogl...08Tgoogle.html The two paths overlap near Carbondale, Illinois, less than seven years apart. http://www.eclipse2017.org/2017/overlap.HTM |
