Jury Reaches Verdict in Apple vs. Samsung Trial
Keeping watching this page, awaiting the result as I type.
According to CNET, the jury has reached a verdict in the Apple vs. Samsung trial after three days of deliberations. The three-week trial has resulted in interesting testimony and evidence from both sides, including looks at early iPhone and iPad prototypes, Apple and Samsung mobile device sales numbers in the U.S., and an internal Samsung memo that examined what the company needed to change in its Galaxy line of smartphones to compete with the iPhone. The 9-person jury was asked to fill out a 20-page jury form with more than 700 questions across 33 groups. They were required to come to an unanimous decision on each question and court-watchers didn't expect a verdict until at least next week. The decision will be announced later this afternoon. MacRumors will update this page as more information is released. http://www.macrumors.com/2012/08/24/...samsung-trial/ |
Samsung found guilty of infringing almost every Apple patent. They have been fined over $1 Billion! Still awaiting the verdict on Apples infringement of their patents.

Have not read the details, but did they really support Apple in the design copy? Please... so nobody is allowed a smoother corner rectangle shape? Details please.

I am a bit surprised it went so much in Apple's favour, as most of the other cases up til now seemed to be siding with Samsung. I personally don't agree with the overall war against Android as competition is always good, but Samsung always seemed to verging on taking the piss with copying Apple's products IMO.

If you look at the evidence, you'll see that Samsung basically changed their design to look more like the iPhone. Not just making a rectangle (which was never the issue) but even small things like the red button to hang up a call. On the original Samsung Android GUI, it was small and next to other buttons with similar functions. The iPhone has one large button that's impossible to miss with even a huge thumb. Internal Samsung memos showed the GUIs side by side, with a note, from the designer, that stated literally 'get rid of clutter of small buttons, simplify and create one large button'. Result... identical, pixel for pixel to the iPhone one. There are literally 100's of examples like this. I am shocked Apple won this given the ridicule they have received, but for once, creativity is recognized. Nothing is obvious until someone does it. The wheel is obvious, but it still took 100,000 years to 'invent' (discover). |

I wonder if this is going to effect the consumer though? Like jacked up prices on memory, phones, tablets etc.

Anyway, good verdict. Just wished Apple would have gotten judgment on it's patent infridgments. But it's Apple's home court. See what happened in South Korea. --- Post Update --- Quote:

It's all a bit stupid isn't it. Look at Tv's, maybe Sony can sue Apple for stealing the rectangle with round edges design?
