One of my cousins was showing us his Volt over the weekend. Really strange to look under the hood and see all the orange wires everywhere. I also thought the way you unlock the doors is neat too. Just the little card in yer pocket and a touch on the door handle button and poof.
I also was impressed on how quiet it is, i expected it to sound like a power wheels but didn't.

Hmm yes maybe, althought I thought refining was near as damnit the same, and insignificent anyway.

Was always lead to believe diesel cost less to produce. One of those statements is obviously a myth. Maybe diesel is just more in demand.
It is simpler to refine diesel than petrol from petroleum, but then they have to refine it again to get the sulpher out.

How do you open doors in Michigan? Put half a tennis ball over the lock and poof?

No, the Volt like other newer cars uses a RF Key in your pocket. As soon as you are within a few feet of the car, the doors unlock. As soon as you are very close, as in, inside the car, it can be started by the ignition button. Or in the volts case "turned on" as it never really needs to be started in the first place.

Corvette, Cadillac, etc... are the GM cars that also use this system.

I think the Cadillac XLR was the first production car to have it.

It has been an option in Europe for about 10 years as well. I don't like it personally and wouldn't buy a car that forced me to have it.

Yes this. It's kind of good in principle I suppose, but you end up needing to have the key on your person, so you still need to know where it is and initially pick it up anyway. First car I drove with it was a Toyota IQ I think!

The pressurising the lock with half a tennis ball to break in and open the door was obviously a joke, but apparently not a good one.

Nah, here we just bust the window with a gun or (depending on location) you have a person bring your car to you, at a stop light. They often don't like to get out though, so it's common to have to use force.

Nice buys... but I think an VW TDI is greener than the Prius.

Really nice buys though... new cars are exciting.

Surely in your position there is more to aspire to than a ****ing Golf?

Dream car? Aston Martin DB9... yeah yeah, lets hear the laughter, but in the meantime, I'm happy to have something practical and affordable to the point of not noticing - oh and small. When I leave NYC and this stinking job, I'll get an Aston.

For now, I only use the car to take my mountain bike across the hudson and back.

Michigan is with everyone, at all times. Sometimes Michigan helps you steer a car, other times Michigan helps many get busy with a tubesock.

What's wrong with the Golf? The Golf TDI's aren't exactly cheap considering they come standard with a lot of features that are "optional" in any other model.

Nothing is wrong with the Golf. I like the Golf. I was joking with Zoolook. He controls the US finance market*, yet aspires to a Golf.

* He doesn't, this is another joke!

Nah, no stealing involved. Think of it as borrowing and parking it in the Detroit river.

Thanks man! The wifey loves her Prius. She keeps smiling from ear to since she never owned a car newer than 7 years old.

I accidentally flashed about $500 in a bad neighborhood in Detroit once, my ex and I ended up leaving very quickly afterwords.

Yes to this.

Also
A Barrel = 42gallons. Gasoline usually makes up about 20gallons and diesel makes up about 4gallons iirc. Anyways, it is a LOT less diesel ber barrel.

Diesel demand stays pretty constant, if not always increasing. But gasoline demand for a while now has been decreasing. As gasoline demand goes down, refineries refine less crude. Though because diesel demand stays the same if not increasing, the prices go up.
Taxes a little higher on diesel too.

There are multiple answers to why diesel is more expensive.
But atm, diesel is cheaper then Premium here!

As far as the Prius, meh.
Always thought that the Volt was pretty cool though :-)
Though I wouldn't say that you really went green.

Should have gone diesel on both rigs, then easily make your own diesel for less than $1/gallon without using used grease or oil! Though could go greener by using used grease and oil as you would actually be recycling!
